Bush numbers take an uptick
Majority of registered Democrats choose Kerry

(CNN) --As President Bush defended his record last week, his approval rating and his strength against the leading Democratic presidential contenders improved, according to a new poll, but the numbers still point to a close election.

The CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll also showed Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts increasing his lead among registered Democrats, with a majority now saying they want him as their nominee to face Bush in November. The two men were virtually tied in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup.

Bush's approval rating in the poll, conducted Friday through Sunday, was 52 percent, compared with 44 percent who said they disapproved. The margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.

1. Can someone again explain why Kerry is our best candidate?
His bounce is already fading.

This will be a 9 month long war. Temporary bounces in the polls isn't what we need, but a candidate who can win in November.

2. well...
what criteria would you use to decide who the best candidate is?

Seems to me like beating Bush in the polls now AND walking away with the vast majority of the primaries is as good an indicator as any other.

3. Well that didn't take long did it??
..As soon as the media whores saw * at 47% they had to do SOMETHING to bolster their meal-ticket didn't they??

I'm not surprised at the right-wing bias in the media, I'm just staggered at how brazen it has become....I mean, gimme a friggin' break....

Makes me want to :puke:

4. Bush's bounce will fade
CNN always does this. When they show a major drop in his polls, the next poll always shows him rebounding. If the best he can do is barely get above 50 percent, bring it on. And Kerry is still running even. A president with a 52-44 approval-disapproval rating should not be running neck-and-neck with a Dem who hasn't even clinched the nomination.
