PUNCHLINE OF THE CENTURY
Edited on Sun Dec-03-06 09:58 PM by NanceGreggs
PUNCHLINE OF THE CENTURY!

TO: Mr. Dan Diaz
Republican National Committee
Dear Danny,

I hope you’ll excuse the familiarity inherent in addressing you by your first name, but after reading a recent quote of yours, I feel we are truly kindred spirits.

I, like yourself, believe that laughter is the best medicine, and your brilliant one-liner was proof that you GOPers actually do have a sense of humor, something that has gone unrecognized by we Democrats for years – until now!

I am referring, of course, to your statement: “Republicans over the next two years will focus on holding Democrats accountable, and recommitting to reforms that deliver for hardworking families,” which appeared in an article by written by Associated Press writer Will Lester.

Assuming you write your own material, I have to congratulate you on what is already circulating the internet as the ultimate punchline!

After years of spending the nation’s money like a drunken sailor on shore-leave, running up the country’s debt like a thief with a wallet-full of stolen credit cards, conveniently ‘losing’ billions of taxpayers’ dollars in Iraq, handing millions over to GOP-friendly contractors like Halliburton with a wink-and-a-nod, the Republicans want accountability! I’ve got to hand it to you, Danny – I honestly thought I would literally die of laughter!

Who knew you guys were so damned funny? Rubber-stamping every insane whim of Georgie, looking the other way on his signing statements and blatant disregard for the Constitution – just mentioning the word “accountability” in connection with your party is enough to make the most dour of Democrats break into an uncontrollable attack of the giggles!

And as they say in the biz, “But wait – there’s more!” As though that accountability line wasn’t killer enough, you actually followed it up with “recommitting to reforms that deliver for hardworking families”. I mean, when it comes to the time-honored one-two comedy punch, that was absolutely classic; irony and a little dig at your own – wonderfully done!

I’m sure your party members’ hard-working constituents are clamouring for more of that “commitment” on their behalf – like the Bankruptcy Bill, the big payoffs to the pharmaceutical industry, not to mention those secret meetings Cheney had with Ken Lay and the rest of the energy barons that have the average citizen wondering if they can afford to heat their homes, or fill up the gas tank in order to get to work – those who still have work, that is! Yes, siree -- those reforms really did deliver, didn't they? Man, you are just a laugh riot!

Honestly, though, you have to admit that after the disaster you’ve made of the country, it’s not like you don’t owe the American people a couple of yuks – but after having your rear-ends handed to you in November, I have to admire your ability to joke it up like this at your own expense. That shows a lot of class, man.

And who knows where this kind of thing might lead. Now that we Democrats appreciate the fact that you guys do have a sense of humor after all, maybe we won’t perceive you arrogant, self-centered, money-grubbing, corrupt bribe-takers in quite the same way as we have in the past.

Well, I’ve gotta run. I just wanted to thank you for bringing so much laughter into so many lives!

Thanks a million,
Nancy Greggs
(Still-Laughing Democrat)

6. Hey, you! As a drunken sailor, now
on permanent shore-leave, I resent this aspersion.

I spent my money wisely on drugs, booze, women, and entertainments... it was what was left I wasted.

thank you for listening,

... to yourself, and to all of the fine members of the RDSBS of OFA -- who so wisely spent their own funds, and not those of their fellow citizens.

So the new talking points are going to turn back to the tried and true tactic of disregarding the unbelievable mess they made of everything and concentrate on criticizing Democratic efforts to put America back on a heal ty course.

20. Recommended!! This needs to be front and center as "most unbelievable quote"
"Holding democrats accountable"--Accountable for WHAT??!? The repukes have done everything possible to shut democrats completely out of the government, and for years people whose representatives were democrats have been pretty much denied a voice in anything up in D.C. We KNOW who's ACCOUNTABLE--or should I say RESPONSIBLE,--you fucking republican thieves/murderers/warmongers! And it AIN'T democrats!

"REcommitting" to "reforms" that deliver for... WHAT???!? Pfizer and Halliburton and KBR and Citibank and Archer Daniels Midland and The Carlysle Group and Capitol One and fucking Travelers Insurance are now called "hardworking families"???!?

yes....go ahead and do that...hold us accountable to our own agenda. Come the next GOP revolution, we will hold you accountable to protecting families from negative coercive messages and laws that cause divorce and childlessnes and to protect the market from the undue burdens of non-productive and selfish people.....right!

about demanding accountability. There will be accountability all right, and some Repubes will end up in the Gray Bar Hotel and License Plate Factory. DeLay, Rove, Abramoff, Cunningham, Foley, etc...............
The rogues gallery will be on display for all to see. And I almost forgot the biggest war profiteers, Rummy, The Dummy and Dick, oh my.

28. There is at least 1 Dem that needs to be held accountable
Diane Feinstein for her outrageous war-profiteering. I doubt however that the RNC will be looking into it.

http://www.antiwar.com/frank/?articleid=8609

Senator Feinstein's War Profiteering
by Joshua Frank

<snip>

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein and her husband are also making tons of money off the "war on terror."

The wishy-washy senator now claims Bush misled her prior to the invasion of Iraq. I don't think she's being honest with us, though. There may have been other reasons she helped sell Bush's lies. According to the Center for Public Integrity, Feinstein's husband Richard Blum has racked in millions of dollars from Perini, a civil infrastructure construction company, of which the billionaire investor wields a 75 percent voting share.

In April 2003, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers gave $500 million to Perini to provide services for Iraq's Central Command. A month earlier in March 2003, Perini was awarded $25 million to design and construct a facility to support the Afghan National Army near Kabul. And in March 2004, Perini was awarded a hefty contract worth up to $500 million for "electrical power distribution and transmission" in southern Iraq.

Feinstein, who sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee as well as the Select Committee on Intelligence, is reaping the benefits of her husband's investments. The Democratic royal family recently purchased a $16.5 million mansion in the flush Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. It's a disgusting display of war profiteering, and just like Cheney, the leading Democrat should be called out for her offense.

32. Mark Twain (as channelled thru Hal Halbrook) once said.....
Nuthin' needs reformin' so much as other people's habits......

Let's hope that the Republicans do indeed keep the Democrats honest. Course, they wouldn't be where they are now if they'd have done some of that on their own side of the aisle. I hope their present dilemma lingers as a cautionary tale for Democrats.

37. Seems like Danny-boy missed something there.
I noticed he missed mentioning the Republican Party drive to turn America into a theocracy. Since about 60% of Republicans are Evangelicals, it seems like he would be mentioning upfront what their plans are, that is, unless of course, they want to try to hide the fact they are going in a direction most Americans don't want to go.
