What Republican president would you prefer?
Okay I know this sounds bad. But we have to face a reality that certain red states are never going to vote for a democratic presidential candidate. OH & FL will be the only swing states. If Diebold has anything to say about it, it may go red in both OH & FL. This means a republican president. So please tell me who you would prefer as a republican president if this situation occurs. By posting this I in no way am endorsing any republican candidate. I would like to see a democratic in the WH come '08.

1. Ike.
He was reasonably sane.

He was not a chickenhawk. He warned us about the military industrial complex so long ago.

And he is currently dead.

5. Ike Was Far To The Left of the Clintons & The DLC
For example, he fought against an Republican-majority Congress to preserve a 92% tax on the wealthiest Americans.

See my blog for details: Dwight D. Eisenhower: Flaming Liberal

4. You did see we made major pickups in Montana, Colorado and Virginia
If we keep this defeatist attitude then of course we're gonna lose these states. Howard Dean has shown that if you get the candidate and the right message out there - we can win in these states!

17. Good point
but in these states they don't mind electing a conservative democratic congressmen or senator. They do not want liberal Presidents. You live in the NE & you have real liberal senators & congressmen. Here in OK we have one democratic congressmen. He was reluctant to vote for Nancy Pelosi as speaker until she took impeachment of the table. This in a state where the republicans have never controlled the state senate.

That outweighs his electronic voting connections, if I am forced to pick a Republican out of the current crop.

12. Eisenhower was the most left - further left than Bill Clinton.
Ike and Clinton would be the more fiscally responsible of the Republican presidents of the last 50 years.

Everyone seems to think you're talking about historic Republican presidents instead of future potential ones.

23. Of the current top crop, I'd pick Giuliani.
But only grudgingly. McCain has sold his integrity, and Romney's sold his moderateness. I always like Huckabee on a personal level, but I despise his policy positions.

26. Gerald Ford
He's still alive! The only thing he did that people had issues with was pardon Nixon. He wasn't in office long enough to do any serious damage. I still don't understand why two different women found him so odius that they had to shoot at him.

28. Your primise in incorrect. Virginia, Missouri, Arkansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado,
and Montana are all winnable. Ohio is almost a lock at this point for Dems if they put up an attractive candidate. Florida is also likely given the same conditions. There is also a second tier of states that include Kansas, Indiana, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arizona, Mississippi, and probably several I am forgetting if the Dems put up someone with true widespread appeal like Obama and the Pubbies counter with a clinker like Newtie.
