Levin to seek another Senate term in 2008

WASHINGTON - Sen. Carl Levin said Monday that he will seek re-election to the Senate in 2008.

The 72-year-old Michigan Democrat was widely expected to seek another term and will enter the race a heavy favorite. With Democrats winning control of the Senate, Levin will lead the Armed Services Committee next year, giving him a major role in shaping Iraq policy.

The Detroit lawmaker has called for troop withdrawals from Iraq beginning within four to six months. He has criticized the Bush administration for making the war open-ended, saying the White House has provided the Iraqis with a blank check with the presence of U.S. troops.

Levin said he hopes to win another term, citing his work on the Armed Services panel and on manufacturing issues crucial to Michigan's automotive and manufacturing industries.

4. Joking aside, 3 of those 4 are some of the best Senators we have
Byrd's segregationist past and refusal to support gay rights bothers me but he's a true statesman on matters of foreign policy.

6. Yeah, I wish Levin was better on the environment, ...
...but he does represent Michigan. An R in his place would be much worse.

7. In certain instances representatives are obligated to represent their constituents
Even if their interests are not what is best for the nation. At least he doesn't chair the committee on the environment.

3. This is excellent news!
The Rethugs don't even bother to try to beat Levin. I wonder what sacrificial lamb will be offered up as his "opposition".
