GAS Prices
Edited on Mon Dec-04-06 10:35 PM by Ethelk2044
Hello What is going on with the Gas prices. The price in PA
has gone from 2.09 to 2.35 since the election. I hope the
Dems investigate what is going on. There has not been a
hurricane or anything to cause this increase. Oh Except the
dems have both the house and the Senate. I figured the repugs
would make sure the gas prices go up, but this is ridiculous.

1. In case you didn't know, the Democrats don't take control
until next month. The Republicans are still running things.

2. I hope that you are not surprised.
Before the election, all of the Republicans were saying that gasoline prices were controlled by supply and demand. The oil companies cannot control the demand but they certainly can control the supply.

3. It's called Pre-Election Manipulation
The admin pulled a few strings, got the price lowered temporarily - pre-election, hoping it would give them an edge - and, now that it hasn't, they're letting their friends/donors screw us again.

That's what always happens in the wonderful world of 'supply side' economics. That's why the 'masters' like it so much.

4. Gas Prices
I Know they are lining their pockets with our money. I can
not wait until we take control. They need to investigate the
hell out of them.

5. Sorry to not fit the in with the conspiracy theorists,
but gas where I live is $2.29, exactly what it was before the election.

7. Where I live, in Texas, the gas was $1.98 or less before the
election and it is now $2.19. BTW who said anything about a conspiracy.

11. Not only was it consistently below $2.00 for 2-3 weeks before the election,
but is was strange that it dipped below $2.00 and stayed very level during that period. This rarely happens. The day after the election it started creeping up. It is 2.27 here now. The fix was in but it didn't work.

12. Where have you been hiding?
The whole conspiracy that once the election was over that the price of gas would skyrocket back up to $3 a gallon. Since, as the theory goes, the price of gas being run down to help the Republicans in the election once the election was over that the price of gas would run right back up to $3. Mine has not changed. You know: Republicans make the price of gas go up and then they make it go down and finally back up again. It can't be a coincidence.

8. it....
....might just be an amazing coincidence that gas prices have risen since the election....or maybe it's just Adam Smiths' invisable finger at work....

....without a doubt, gas is an economic necessity of modern life comparable to food/clothing/shelter....and as such, we ought to regulate it, distribute it and price it for the common good and move the profit-mongers out of the way until alternatives can be developed....

9. Windfall profits tax!
Besides eliminating the subsidies the oil industry gets, they need to get this 'windfall profits tax' in effect. If you watched c-span this summer when they had the energy committee, you would have seen a fraud going on in public. Most of the members of the committee are from the 'oil' states, but I do remember some Democrat getting to the point about 'no' refinery being built in years and none planned. So, as someone posted, the supply is well controlled by the oil industry.

10. Up $.26 since the election here, $.10 the first week.
But of course this happened in spite of the best efforts of our benevolent oil company executives, and is merely a coincidence, or free market fluctuations, or a broken pipeline, or a regularly scheduled refinery shutdown, or...:eyes:

14. Oregon is Number 1 with a siphon, baby!
$2.60 a gallon, and headed nowhere but up. Straight to the top with Oregon gas prices! Number 1 baby! Yahoo!

And you can be ultra-sure that it has nothing (nothing! I tell you) with Oregon Senator Ron Wyden's stated desire to crack open the oil company books and have a little look-see. I mean, a $10 billion quarterly profit is just such a thin margin, it's a wonder the oil companies can even stay in business.
