1. Here's the problem - Gates is assuring Dems privately he will be withdrawing |
|
troops from Iraq.
If your priority goal is to get a withdrawal plan on the table sooner rather than later, then what is a Dem of conscience supposed to do?

7. Do they really believe that? |
|
I hope they're smarter than that. They've been lied to daily by the Bush admin and GOP since Jan 2001. Why would they want to believe them now?
My perception isn't that Gates will do anything differently. He just has better salsemanship skills than Rummy or Dick.

8. I don't think so - I think Bushboy screwed up so bad he's put the fascist agenda |

at risk when BFEE has worked to set it in place for over 40 years. They need to get out of Iraq as soon as they can while protecting the Saudis just so they can make a comeback at a later time with some of the goodwill built up from taking over the job from Bushboy and forging ahead on Iraq withdrawal.
That's how BFEE always works - the Bushboy's stubborn bungling has put their agenda at risk with all the backlash. They'll take control of Iraq - I am certain of it.
Then we have to get BFEE out completely in Jan 2009 - no GOP yesmen, and no coverup Democratic administration, either.

3. Unfortunately, it looks like Gates will be confirmed |
|
and that tells me that it is business as usual in Washington. I suspect Gates is part of the "Throw the people a bone to keep 'em busy " plan. Gates was a big part of Iran-Contra wasn't he? Is anyone questioning him on his role in that scandal? I doubt it. ( I don't have cable) I am afraid that nothing will really ever change. We will see in January if things continue on this path. But I gotta say, at the moment, I am discouraged.

5. The problem is that Iran-Contra is a dead horse |
|
Since Gates (along with several others) were never convicted of anything back when it happened, there's little we can do about it now.

6. Dead horse?...YARITE! You'd like it if we'd all 'lie down' on that one. |

They are the crazies Ray McGovern(CIA) spoke about. WHACKOS.
Clinton dropped those investigations. Had the investigations continued, we wouldn't see the HELL WE'RE IN TODAY!
(DLC Centrists totally disgust me)

4. This guy is better than Rumsfeld |
|
And a fair choice to fill out the term for the next two years. Bush is unlikely to send up anyone that the Dems like or that comes without a history.
I think they should vote to confirm. Gates at least talks to the Dems, which is more than most in the Bush Admin. Again, I think there is a chance that he can do more good than harm, and for the Bushies and their appointments, that's a rave.

9. The problem is this is the BUSH Administration |
|
Right now in my mind there is one and only one qualification that is really important to me for the next Secretary of Defense: are they able to actually perceive some of the reality of the Iraq fiasco and can they somehow communicate that to George W. Bush? My plan is to replace this Administration with a Democratic one in two years. Till then I would like fewer tens of thousands to die inside Iraq and less new wars to start up than seemed likely under the previous influence of Rumsfeld and Cheney.
If Gates is the guy who can swing the balence of power inside Bush's Administration away from Cheney, I will live with him until we can get rid of all of them. Gates is Daddy Bush's man. Daddy Bush knew enough to not depose Hussein after the Gulf War. If anyone can pull W back from the brink, in my opinion, it will have to be some old and trusted Bush family friends. They are not exactly my favorite people, but they have their work cut out for them now.
