Poll question: Your favorite for Democratic nominee in 2008, Heat Two |
|
Candidate list taken from Wikipedia.
If your favorite candidate isn't here, look for him/her in the Heat One thread.
The Final will, predictably, include the first five from each thread.

No just joking. Hilary will make a good president. But I had to go with Obama. But if Hilary was our choice I would vote for her with no complaints.

17. No not on DU, just in all the rest of America. Sorry, but Obama got my vote anyway. |

Hate to disappoint you.
BTW, Kerry doesn't do too well anywhere, eh, not here nor in real life either. Heck, even here on DU, the not-too-popular Obama is giving him more than a run for his money. Ouch!

18. That remains to be seen |
|
There is a lot to happen between now and the time the first caucus vote is cast. We have a lot of problems to work through in this country and things will change, opinions will change, and then change again.
There are always surprises in the Primaries. People run, then drop out. Things happen, people are up, then down, then up again. It is a marathon, after all, not a sprint. We shall see what develops over the next year. I know that 3 months from now it won't look like what it looks like today. And it will change again, after that.

19. On DU, it'll be Clark or Gore. In the real world, it'll be Obama, Hillary, or Gore |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 09:44 AM by mtnsnake
and that's only if Gore runs.
I wish Clark would do better in the real world, but at least my man Obama is gaining huge momentum, and he hasn't even made his run official yet.

21. DU is not a representative sample of the Democratic Party |
|
It is a self-chosen group that, in general, leans a bit more left than the Democratic Party as a whole. That is neither good nor bad, it simply is.
It remains to be seen how people will do. Sen. Obama is a formidable political force. He has a lot going for him, but he is also subject to the pitfalls of new candidates on the national scene. Obama was not really tested in his Senatorial run in '04 through a combination of factors, including the meltdown of the Illinois Republican Party.
That is not a slam on Obama. No one knows what it's like to enter the crucible of Presidential politics until they do it. Presidential politics are a chance for the newsmedia, and now people on the internet, to examine everything you have ever done in your life and post obscure videos online of everything that you have ever done that is on video. (And that is quite a lot in this day and age.) Sen. Obama has received relatively great press coverage up to now. That will change, as it does for everyone who runs eventually.
In a way, the worst thing you can wish on someone is to wish them to run for high political office. The microscope is placed not just on them but on their families, friends and relations, on every job they have ever had, every loan they ever took out, every advocacy position they ever took. There are things in everyone's past that will have to be explained. There are 'little things' that will come out, be misinterpreted and exploited for political gain. This is how the process works now. There are only a few people who can survive that kind of scrutiny. I believe that Sen. Obama may be one of them, but until he goes through it, we don't know.
