She is much too polarizing, and probably unelectable. The DFL will need a more centrist candidate.

19. I don't think she will make it out of the primaries, in all honesty.
She's a polarizing figure, even among Democrats, especially over the war in Iraq.

15. I agree - she's no dummy.
She's an extremely smart woman, and I'll vote for the Democratic candidate in '08. My popcorn is out only because this type of thread usually gets a lot of passionate responses.

4. Me too!
I'll support any Democratic nominee in the general election (with the exception of someone like Lieberman, but that goes without saying).

13. I will do my best to control my gag reflex in the voting booth.
But I will vote for her if she wins the nomination. I will be disgusted, I will be resentful, I will be extremely reluctant but I will force myself to do it. I hate having to vote for someone simply because they are not the Republican or as Republican as the other Republican. I sincerely hope this doesn't happen.

16. same here
I desperately hope for any number of reasons that she doesn't get the nomination, but if she does, I'll be there in the front lines fighting for the Democratic nominee, as if my life depended on it.

I won't like it at first, and I may not like it later, but I would fight like mad to get her elected.

Same for whoever is the nominee (assuming we won't be coronating Zell Miller or Joementum, which I'm confident is a safe assumption).

I'm just curious and want to understand where all this resentment is originating from.

21. good question
the short answer is

1) unapologetic about the war (she runs from hawk to bush critic and back again to hawk in the course of a sentence) and I believe that is because she THINKS she needs to be macho - this is unfair to her, that a woman would have to be this way, but... Just like the only Israeli leader who could evacuate Gaza, or close West Bank settlements is Sharon, because his tough guy bona fides are so firmly established. She doesn't have Sharon's bona fides in the eyes of the public so she must 'compensate'.

2) However brilliant she is (and she is) I just plain and simple don't trust that she means what she says...triangulates and focus-groups her way into a non-existence.

3) She polarizes in a way that is very bad for her chances - inspiring the right wingers, and suppressing the progressive forces - so much so that I think she is the least likely of the major Dem candidates to actually be able to win a national election. And I believe she knows this, but her ambition, consonant with Bill's, over-rides the proper, prudent response to that, which would be to settle into a long career as the most powerful Senator in the land.

As I said, though, if she gets the nomination, I'll work like mad for her, even though I'll likely never buy into her. I want a Democratic president.

23. Thank you. Great answer!
If only everyone could express their displeasure with Senator Clinton the way that you just did, so honestly and so reasonably, this place would get along so much better.

24. A Ha! Another reason to ensure that she sis not the nominee
With all the new electronic voting machines the vomit of those with weak stomachs forced to vote Hillary Clinton will assuredly bring the electoral process to a standstill! :p

22. not me
it would only validate the DLC hacks and negate the point of the 2006 victories.

there's precious little difference between a pro-war dem and rudy.
both are huge egomaniacs who will sell outy anyone and everyone to gain power.

if it's her, then nader all the way.
