Question: Has Bayh said he regrets voting for the IWR?
Edited on Tue Dec-05-06 10:30 PM by Ignacio Upton
This will be a sticking point in 2008, even if the issue of withdrawal is the most immediate one now. If he wants to patch things up with the base (which may not vote for him in the primary, but could be open to supporting him in the general) then he will have to acknowledge that voting for the war was a mistake. He won't look like a flip flopper because many Americans have come to this conclusion over the years (just look at Chuck Hagel for an example.)

If he comes out an says "knowing what I know now, I would not have voted for it" then that will instantly boost his chances. If it wasn't for the war and his DLC connections, I would say he's one of our strongest candidates: legislative AND executive experience as a former Governor. In looks of being superficial he does well in the looks department too.

2. “I wouldn’t cast the same vote today as I did then” doesn't cut the mustard for ya?

4. Could I see the link for that?
I believe you, but I just want to see the link, so that next time anyone brings this up I'll be able to debunk it.

6. Unfortunately, he also said this:
“the French believed that (there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq), the Germans believed that, the Russians believed that, everybody believed he had weapons of mass destruction.”

...That helps give Bush a life preserver.

7. I am no Bayh 08 supporter, I don't know much about him.
Someone was claiming he didn't regret his vote, and never would. I think that quote would indicate otherwise.

or at least lent his name to it. I think it was one of those bipartisan jobs supposedly drafted by Lieberman, Bayh, Warner, and McCain.
