3. but Rudiani loses half the match-ups on the same page

I suspect it's a moot point given the way GOP primaries treat "maverick" candidates beyond New Hampshire and New York, the nativists can retool the Pace Salsa campaign ("New York City?!"). Giuliani has never attempted a statewide race, even when polls suggested a foregone conclusion, so I think his Fav margin is an artifice that crumbles once he actually runs for something (and takes positions on divisive issues such as weasels). But his biggest primary challenge is history and the repub constituency:

RELIGION AND SOCIAL ISSUES

Most delegates to the Republican convention are extremely or very religious, Protestant, and hold conservative positions on abortion and stem cell research. In this area the delegates come close to mirroring the Republican voters they represent.

Nearly four in 10 Republican delegates say that religion is extremely important to them, as do 34% of Republican voters, and only 21% of Democratic delegates.

IMPORTANCE OF RELIGION

65% of Republican delegates are Protestant, and another one in four are Catholic. Democrats -- both delegates and voters -- were more diverse in their religious preferences when asked in July.

9. Rasmussen are the ones who forgot him.

For whatever reasons? He certainly has not said whether he would run or not.

These polls still largely reflects name recognition and positive/negative media coverage. I doubt many people have a guenuine impression of Bayh, Vilsack, or Richardson at this point.

6. Actually, these polls are legit. The balance [100 - (fav + unfav)] is the % who don't know.
Gore and Clark have more work to do than i expected (both with more unfaves than faves). Also, i'm surprised that Hill isn't doing worse.

8. What this poll doesn't measure is depth of feeling and/or knowledge. Take Giuliani
His favorables are off the chart, but hardly anyone really knows Giuliani, they know his image as someone who took charge after 9/11. The favorable impression that left people with of Giuliani is real, but it is not deeply rooted in a full sense of who he is and what he believes in. I'm sure a lot of those favorably inclined people don't know that he dumped his wife, who still wanted to save their marriage, and lived with his mistress in City Hall while he was Mayor of New York City, for one example.

There is no good reason for Hagel to have such a dramatic negative rating if you aren't one of the few people who know he used to own an electronic voting machine company. He is a straight shooter war hero maverick much like McCain is perceived to be. I assume Republicans don't like him because he bucked Bush in public, but he was right and Bush was wrong.

It is not only a matter of name recognition, it is how sharply defined a person is in the public's mind and how difficult it will be for the public to learn new things about them that might change their current feelings. Of the people listed above, I think only Clinton, Gore and McCain are people that the public rightly or wrongly believe that they have a pretty good fix on who they are at this time.
