Hey repukes in congress - if you don't want to actually work: RETIRE!!!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/05/AR2006120501342_pf.html

"Keeping us up here eats away at families," said Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.), who typically flies home on Thursdays and returns to Washington on Tuesdays. "Marriages suffer. The Democrats could care less about families -- that's what this says."

Time away from Washington is just as important to being an effective member of Congress as time spent in the Capitol, Kingston added. "When I'm here, people call me Mr. Congressman. When I'm home, people call me 'Jack, you stupid SOB, why did you vote that way?' It keeps me grounded."

You know, this fucking PISSES ME OFF. These guys make almost $200k a year and bitch about the fact we're gonna finally make them work? I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not making anywhere near that much and I'm stuck at the office 5 days a week and I don't get nearly as much vacation as you PLUS my benefits are no where near as good as you. And hell, I'm someone who makes a decent salary - what about all those people stuck making minimum wage and trying to afford healthcare (or even worse - living without it).

So Jack, you stupid SOB, if you don't want to work then fricking retire and give the job to someone who knows the responsiblities of holding an elected office. Your party ran congress for 12 years and did nothing but slack off, give away our budget to the corporations and started a war based on lies that doesn't have an exit strategy.

Listen to these whiny crybabies that might actually have to WORK for their salaries? Hey Jack -- next time Bill Maher calls, tell him you're not available because you have to go home and be with your family. :sarcasm:

12. I've seen Sherwood Boehlert exactly once.
In about, oh, seven or eight years of being in his district. I honestly don't know what they do in the home districts other than photo-ops or baby-kissing sessions. Seems to me they ought to be in Washington doing what we pay them for.

What a bunch of whining cry babies. They need to get a real job and see how understanding their boss is about their need for "family time." Welcome to the real world, boys!

6. Poor, rich, babies...
Boo-fucking-hoo. I work two jobs, go to school, I'm hardly home these days, and I still can't afford to move out! I have negative vacation time! I work 6 days a week! When these a-holes took the job, they took everything that goes with it, and that includes, *gasp*, DOING YOUR JOB! That means working! Yes, it means you will be away from home, but guess what? Tough shit, it's part of the job! So spare me your whining, idiots. I'll be glad to replace you w/people that actually want to do their jobs. Or better yet, don't show up for work, let the Dems get the job done...

7. They don't work when they're there
Even if these lousy SOB's are physically present in D.C., how many hours a day do you think they actually work? I mean really work -- reading, writing, thinking of ways to actually improve the country. I would bet that most don't even get to the office till 9:30 or 10:00. They take nice comfy lunches at all the fancy D.C. restaurants (need to be seen by the right people you know), and are probably gone by 4:00. They leave it to their staff to do the actual work.

Plus, don't forget all the time devoted to meeting with Abramoff-style lobbyists, trying to arrange CYA deals, leaking classified information to the press, and planning their re-election campaign. I'd like to see an hour-by-hour bill for these guys. You know, the Repubs screamed about the Rose Law Firm billing records for the past 10 years. Let's see the time these wastes actually spend doing their jobs.

Although with the way the Repubs do their best to F--K over America, maybe the less time spent at it is best!

11. Any chance they could vote by videoconferencing?
or some other medium for when they simply have to be with their constituents/family but don't want to miss important votes?

We also need lobbying and ethics reform and campaign finance reform as well. Keeping these guys in Washington will hopefully get more things done but we don't want them to spend more time with their K street cronies.

15. Need some help with letter I'm sending to state newspapers:
Critique away:

Mr. Kingston,

I read with some astonishment on Wednesday how difficult it is for you to now do your job. I wish I could feel badly for you, but somehow I am unable to muster one iota of sympathy. The new Democratically-controlled Congress is taking the august body back to a 5 day work week. Obviously, this is just too much for you as you told the Washington Post that "Keeping us up here eats away at families. Marriages suffer. The Democrats could care less about families -- that's what this says.”

Do you know that that says to me, Jack? It says to me that you are a whiny, crybaby sore loser and don’t deserve to represent the people of the 1st District. How many people in your district work 7 days a week to keep their families together? How many people in your district work 2 jobs to feed their families? For you to whine about having to actually work 3 whole days a week is a disgrace and you owe all the people of Georgia an apology. If you find it’s too much for you and your family, I have a suggestion for you. Resign. That’s right, just quit. I’m sure that you could give up your position as the Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference and I’m sure that the next time someone like Stephen Colbert or Bill Maher calls asking for you to be on their TV show you’ll tell them no because you need to rush home to be with your family.

More importantly, do you really want to know what “eats away at families” Jack? How about the disastrous policies of the Bush Administration that you helped rubber stamp along? I think those might be a good place to start. I think being deployed for 3 consecutive tours of duty in a failed (not to mention unnecessary) war might eat away at the fabric of a family. Wouldn’t you agree Jack?

I believe that you knew what the job of being a United States Congressman entailed before you threw your hat into the ring. I believe that you must have known that had your won your election, you would be required to live in Washington DC to perform the duties entrusted to you by the people of the 1st District of Georgia. For you to say that having to work a full week would eat away at families and to blame Democrats for keeping you away from yours is pathetic.

No one forced you to run for this position and no one is keeping you there. I am quite confident that Speaker Pelosi will accept your resignation.

17. Ruby, I think it's perfect just the way you have it.
Sums up my exact feelings about the Pukes whining about a "five" day work week.

If he misses his family that much, move 'em to DC. I'm sure he can afford it.

18. So what have Republicans done to give people more time with their families?
This guy is complaining that he can only have seven days vacation at a time (and that seven days comes several times each year). I am sure most Americans would be thrilled to get a quarter of the time off that a member of Congress does. But what have Republicans done to require that employers provide their employees with ANY vacation time...ahh nothing. In fact they would fight such a move every step of the way. Yet they have the nerve to complain that Democrats don't care families because they don't give Congressional members enough time off. Maybe they should learn that most of us are not members of Congress and we don't get the same benefits they do.

21. The guy spent exactly 25.2% of his time in Washington DC
Where was he the other 74.8% of the time? According to the Rolling Stone article about the "Worst Congress Ever", Congress worked exactly 96 days in 2006. That's 25.2% of the time.

This is utter bullshit to be making as much as they do and then only spend 25.2% of their time in DC. I wouldn't have a problem with a 4day work week since yes, there is travel time and time to spend within your district HOWEVER the 109th Congress did so little this past term that we need to go 5 days just to get the job done
