The reason why the United States exists at all is because of the stupidity of arrogant people, people who think that their above-average wealth and its associated power entitle them to lord it over others, to rob them, enslave them, deny them what we now call basic human rights. Throughout the 18th century, people of all levels started to realize that the arrogant could be defeated, culminating in the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the European revolutions, the South American revolutions, and the 20th century's Bolshevik Revolution. Some of these were sucessful, some were not, some were for varying lengths of time. But in this 21st century, it looked like the American Revolution was a gonner.
The reason why the United States exists today is because there are more below-average wealth-and-power people than above, that they have 200+ years of thinking that all men are created equal, and that they do not buy into the arrogant world-view, nor permit it to dominate public policy. The results of November 7th are clear testimony to that--even if there are still citizens who are a little fuzzy about the stakes in this game and their best interests and roles in it.
But, in order to continue and complete the American Revolution (for it is an ongoing proposition, as we seek a more perfect Union and clearer lines of power), we must do several fundamental tasks in the next few years (less than 10, preferably less than 5):
We must Impeach, Indict Convict and Imprison BushCo and their enablers; their money sources must be RICOed; and the election process must be made transparent, honest, and invulnerable to theft.
To not do such things would be to die a slow and painful death.
We have been warned!
McCarthy and Red-baiting was a warning.
Nixon and Watergate was a warning.
Reagan, Gingrich, and Iran/Contra was a warning.
Greneda, Panama, the School of the Americas and the Columbian, Nicaraguan, and other South American forays was a warning.
JFK, RFK, and MLK was a warning.
Elections of 2000. 2002, 2004, 2006, 9/11 and Iraq is our latest warning.
All of these in the last 50 years--how many warnings does it take? How many more times will this representative democracy survive such close shaves? What kind of nation do we leave our children and grandchildren?
