Dean wants another District 13 election

WASHINGTON — Republican Vern Buchanan may be the official winner in a messy Sarasota-area Congressional race, but Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean says the Democratic-controlled Congress should not seat Buchanan without another election.

“Absolutely not,’’ Dean said in a taped “Political Connections” interview airing Sunday on Bay News 9. “You cannot seat someone if you don’t have an election that’s valid.

“This election is not valid. There are 18,000 people who may have voted and we don’t know what happened to their votes,” he said. “You can bet that if the Republicans were 500 votes short they’d be calling for a new election, and they’d be right.”

He will appear in the taped interview on BayNews9 on Sunday.

Hopefully someone can get it on You Tube.

1. Finally
Someone with some balls has told the damn truth. We can't have a government that wasn't even rightfully elected and survive. We've been telling yall this for years now, hope the message is finally sinking in.

Kerry won in 2004, and we are the losers.

7. Trouble is that house Dems won't like his saying it...
I am willing to bet on that. It is going to be a hard fight on this one,I think.

The new house incoming Dems may be different though.

5. Dean is in Europe this week. Must have taped it previously.

I am glad to see him have an interview on this show. This is becoming an important feature for a non major network station. Still pretty right wing slant, but trying to be better.

I am still setting up my YouTube account and figuring how to upload video clips. Everytime I think I have mastered it, I goof. I doubt I will master it by Sunday.

Dean is in Europe this week, Spain today. This is the best translation I can get from this blog..from Babelfish.

http://quisqueyainteractiva.blogspot.com/2006/12/el-lder-del-partido-demcrata-de-eeuu-y.html

"The head of the Government, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and the leader of
the Democratic Party of the United States, Howard Dean, met today in the
Palace of Moncloa for, among other subjects, to analyze the collaboration
between the PSOE and the democrats. In the meeting, according to socialist
sources, a review became of the situation that live some international
conflicts, like the one of Iraq or the Palestinian-Israeli, and the
collaboration between the PSOE and the Democratic Party was analyzed."

6. Tom Feeney, the sneaky guy, just had to weigh in.
Warns the Democrats, the little sneak.

“I think there would be a huge pushback in terms of the American people,’’ said Rep. Tom Feeney, an Orlando area Republican. “I think that the consequences of that would be severe for the Democratic leadership.”

And for once, I wish Jim Davis would have just come out and said Dean was right. Here he is beating around the Bush about it...

"Rep. Jim Davis, a departing Tampa Democrat, said the lawsuit should be resolved first, but that, “No one should be afraid to get to the bottom of what happened.”

I guess that is sort of an agreement.

10. The committee that seats members...won't it change hands in January?
House Administration Committee
http://cha.house.gov/about/default.htm

This looks like a committee with wide oversight, and it only has 3 Democratic members right now.

I suppose it is a pipe dream that they would consider not seating him. But it's a good thought.

11. Wow, what's changed with the St. Pete Times....ugly editorial about Dean's statement
I always thought of them as a sensible at least decent paper, but this is just plain ugly.

http://www.sptimes.com/2006/12/10/Opinion/Butt_out__Dean_Buchan.shtml

Butt out, Dean; Buchanan won

A Times Editorial
Published December 10, 2006

"The disappointment Christine Jennings feels is understandable. She lost the District 13 congressional race by a mere 369 votes only to learn that 18,000 Sarasota County ballots were cast with no choice in that contest. So the Democrat sued over the results and showed up for freshman orientation at the Capitol alongside Republican Vern Buchanan, the official winner. Now Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean has blundered into the controversy, calling on House Democrats who will control Congress next year to deny Buchanan his seat and order a new election.

The race's troubling aspects have morphed into absurdity. It is time to bring finality. Jennings should concede defeat and the Democratic Party should butt out."

They just don't get it, that this is about so much more that just this race. This is an ugly editorial.

This paper has changed.
