The real reason that any Dem who vote for the war should have voted against Gates
It's very simple.

The reason that has been given by almost all the Dems for why they voted to authorize the war is that they were fed bogus intel that led them to vote the wrong way.

Gates has a proven history of making up intel to fit the Executive's needs.

Therefore, any Dem who voted for the war only because they were given bad intel, should have voted against Gates. (Like so many of them did back in 1991.) A vote against Gates would have been a vote against dishonest intel.

Whether Gates would have been confirmed without their votes is moot. As Senators, it's their job to vote in the nation's interests - - not to vote in the nation's interests only when they get 50 other Senators to vote the same way. And again - - if a single one of the current Senate Dems had an atom of real leadership in them, they could at least attempt to get other Senators to take a stand against bogus intel.

The one in particular you want Al Gore to drop all of his hard work on the climate crisis for to have a grudge match with to give your site more traffic. You use every issue on your site as only a way to promote yourself and to harrass Al Gore to run for President...unless of course it was 2004. Then you were content to sit it out and criticize other supporters who saw the REAL urgency of stopping Bush and his people before it got totally out of hand. As far as Gates is concerned, I don't think he should have been confirmed either, but my reasons are moral not "2008" politically motivated.
