George Mitchell to be US ambassador to UN?

Senator Mitchell has been shortlisted by the White House for the post, according to news reports in the US.

Reports on Senator Mitchell's possible nomination have cited his diplomatic experience in Northern Ireland. The 72-year-old was chairman of the talks that led to the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.

He is also chairman of the Disney corporation, a position he is due to give up at the end of this month.

be nominated.
