Giuliani: Leaving Iraq a 'Terrible Mistake'
From NewsMax

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said that scaling back support for U.S. efforts in Iraq, as suggested by the Iraq Study Group, would be a "terrible mistake.”

Giuliani resigned from the group this past summer when it became clear that his participation in compiling the group’s report could come back to haunt him if he runs for president in 2008.

...snip...

In remarks Giuliani made to talk show host Dennis Prager on Tuesday, Giuliani said: "The idea of leaving Iraq, I think, is a terrible mistake.”

I offer this not because its' particularly useful or informative to know what Rudy thinks about this issue, but rather for what it portends for him as Presidential candidate:

* Rather than fight for his "principles" on the ISG (for the betterment of the country perhaps?), he drops out so his Presidential campaign isn't sullied by anything it says that's inconsistent with his campaign message.

* Despite the fact that virtually every Republican and Democrat today thinks we can't go on in Iraq, he rejects a pull out under any circumstances -- conveniently allowing him to fight for "tough guy" votes with John McCain

* To reach the RW base, he'll happily go on the radio with someone as sleazy as Dennis Prager, and presumably not criticize him for either his religious bigotry or his ignorance of the constitution.

Should be a fun primary...

3. More Giuliani rationale:
(November 14, 2006 -- 12:34 PM EDT)

PERHAPS THIS IS something of an existential question. But do we really have to pretend that Rudy Giuliani has more than a snowball's chance in hell of getting the Republican presidential nomination? Or can we all just stipulate that a multiple adulterer, who supports gay civil rights and choice, has deep and on-going ties to mobbed-up and now-disgraced Police boss Bernie Kerik, has a largely unscrutinized (outside of New York) resume, and had the bright idea of locating the NYC disaster center in the already-once-bombed World Trade Center probably will have some rough sledding in Republican primaries?

5. The Wretch Wants The Republican Nomination, Sir, In the Worst Way
And if he gets it, will certainly fail to secure the Presidency. The people want another line entirely in this matter: they want it over and done with....

6. I'd say locating the NYC emergency command ctr in WTC 7
was a "terrible mistake", so Rudy's opinion on strategic matters is to be safely ignored.

8. Well, in his defense, how could he know the cabal was planning
on blowing up WTC7? How could he expect the building to go down when such a thing had NEVER happened before?

Seriously, wasn't WTC7 selected as the command center for any civil emergency long before 9/11? Not defending him - I think he's a cockroach - but there's plenty else to hit him with.

11. It was selected after February 1993
as in the date of the 1st WTC attack, and no, I don't believe WTC7 was taken down intentionally, although locating the emeregency generator fuel tanks so close to the tower's transfer trusses was a bit dumb.

7. In Rudy's defense, he did support Baker's continued cry for the Kaiser to be hanged.
:sarcasm:

What a sleaze ball ole Rudy is. He reminds me of Tim Pigott-Smith's character in The Jewel in the Crown...the sleazy working class policeman who lords over the "natives" while secretly loathing his own origins. I don't know why: but P-Smith is able to absolutely evil in some of his characters, while on the surface the picture of civility...Guiliani seems the same to me somehow.

10. Frankly, I'm GLAD he said it!
Likewise, I'm glad McCain is calling for a big troop INCREASE. Why? Because they are the Puke front-runners. And they've just demonstrated themselves to be so out of touch with the American people (do they even know there was an election last month??) that they will NEVER be elected to the Presidency.

So let them blather on. They're digging their holes deeper.
