Would we be in Iraq today if Congress had done their job? |
|
Not only with giving up their authority to declare war but their lack of oversight of any kind? Their "rubber-stamping" of billions and billions of dollars for unexplained expenditures in Iraq? Their total disregard of $9 billion missing dollars?
If the Congress had asked the questions they should have and if they had done their job, would we be in the mess we find ourselves in today in Iraq? I hope the lesson has been learned. I hope the Democratic majority does not turn into a subservient branch of the White House, as the Republicans did...

3. Actually, I think Shrub would have invaded Iraq anyway! |
|
He has done EVERYTHING he wanted to do by mis-interpreting the laws and giving him supreme authority "as CIC in a time of war". He was hell bent on invading Iraq even before he got into the WH, and between him and Gonzo and the rest of 'em, they'd have found a way!
As far as the oversight...or lack of it, I can hear the excuses now. We can't give THAt kind of confidential info to Congress! It jeopardizes national security. They've been using that BS on almost all the issues that did manage to be questioned.
yes, the Pubs rolled over for ShrubCo, and I wonder if it's because of what he has on a lot of them? I doubt we'll ever know.

way the fuck back when, and enforced white collar crime laws, if Reagan-omics hadn't opened the door to mass-theft..further enriching already way too rich people.. if the people actually got to elect candidates who weren't pre-approved by the ruling elite..if..if..if

This didn't just start with the 109th Do Nothing Congress. It's been a game of smoke and mirrors for far, far too long.

Bush thought he was invincible. He was going to run the country in his own way. Congress saw his numbers increase & they felt we should allow him to do what he wants because we clearly cannot ever have the people against us again. In other words they felt they had a dictatorship that will have elections every now then because of the law, but people are so happy with them they will keep on re-electing them. But how the mighty have fallen. Soon we will have this country running again with the principles the fore-fathers intended.

7. Congress and the media. |
|
At least a few people in Congress were doing their job. A majority of Democrats voted against the Iraq War. The media chose to ignore them.

And those of them, current and past, who hold higher aspirations, should not be rewarded.
