Fox brazenly declares VICTORY....in the war on Xmas! |
|
Wal-Mart is now requiring the geezers in the front to greet customers with "Merry Christmas" --ALL customers, including Hasidic Jews and Buddhist monks, theoretically. With a recent dearth of REAL issues they can claim victory on, every other person on Fox is gloating about this as if they personally saved baby Jesus from being torn apart by the pagan masses.
If ever there was a case of letting the baby have its bottle, this would certainly be it. Thoughts?
(BTW, Daily Show did an excellent piece on this.)

1. I wouldn't want to be an employee there... |
|
I don't think it is right for the company to force it's employees to say "Merry Christmas." What if there are employees who practice other religions that don't celebrate Christmas? I would think a Jehovah's Witness or a Muslim wouldn't appreciate it if they are not somehow acknowledged.
"Merry Christmas" is too exclusive, it assumes that one celebrates the Christian holiday when that may not even be the case.

6. War mongers will declare war on ANYTHING, & proclaim themselves victorious; this is proof! |
|
And let's face it, they certainly don't want to report on what's happening in Washington & Iraq these days! They gotta talk about SOMETHING! :P

Making people SAY "Merry Christmas" who don't want to is obnoxious, but what else would you expect from Wal-Mart?
But Christmas is mostly a secular, American holiday. Who cares what holiday you celebrate personally, if you're receiving the greeting? Christmas will still happen, and you might as well have a merry one.

2. Faux/Bushco news is so silly |

Two nights ago I went to a Xmas program at a public junior high school. The last song was Silent Night sang in both German and English.
Fox is fighting imaginary windmills.

If somebody's life is so trivial, petty and empty that forcing someone else to say "Merry Christmas" rather than "Happy Holidays" is a major accomplishment, then let them have it.
Who knows what other kind of shit they'd get up to...
I'm sorry...I just can't get excited about "War On Christmas III". I wonder, though if it will be an issue next year with the Dems in control of Congress. There might be REAL issues to think about.
Wonder what would happen if somebody said Feliz Navidad? That's Merry Christmas, isn't it?

4. I don't think you'll see too many Hasidic Jews or Buddhist monks at Wal Mart. |

Anyway, whats the big deal with a "Merry Christmas." If it upsets you so much, wear ear plugs when you go to Wal Mart.

9. actually, it doesn't bother me |
|
They're just words. Just like "Happy Holidays."
I never heard of ANYONE boycotting a store because a clerk said "merry christmas" to them. This "war" is a little one-sided, if you ask me....

celibration in honor of winter getting over with. They figure Christ was born in March or April. No wonder the Bush administraiton thinks the common man can be lead by the nose...it is rather apparent!

11. There are so many holidays in December |
|
We have Advent, but that isn't really a holiday; No one takes off work for it. We have Hanukkah (If Christians believe in the Old Testament, why isn't it also a Christian holiday?) There is Kwanzaa. There is Boxing Day. There is New Years Eve. There is my brother's birthday. And the entire Holiday Season is started off With Thanksgiving.
That's a lot of holidays to celebrate, but Christmas is the only one that is a merchandising gimmick. None of the others try to guilt you into going into debt so that people will like you. If you ask me the materialism of Christmas has gotten waaaay out of hand. But if that is the way the Fundies think they should celebrate the birth of the Christ child, let them close church and go shopping, but don't force me to spend, spend, spend.
I'm making most of my gifts again this year. I have my popsicle sticks and Elmer's all spread out on the table... Not really, my medium this year is fabric and thread.

It's based on a lunar cycle, so it falls in December occasionally.

I'm cool with that, or welcome. I don't really care enough about that matter, but I have worked retail in the past and I would really hate for my boss to tell me what to say.
