I Can't Explain It, But It's Like I Have A "Letdown" After The 2006 Landslide
Have any of you experienced this? You know, . . . you did a lot to help good DEms get elected, stayed up oh so late, etc., and then we WON! Whoppe!! Wow!!! Outstanding . . . . . .

Now what? I had someone at work ask me why I wasn't doing cartwheels, etc. I said something like "Well, I'm not like repugs who get in your face, and are such graceless "winner." While that is true, I also felt and still do, a little bit let down. Oh well, I guess this too shall pass.

1. It's exhaustion. You don't have that sick feeling every day, you feel like
rescue will happen, and that the country has stopped sliding into the abyss...but now, you look around, and you see the MESS...that WE have to clean up....

It's easy to be a bit disheartened.

2. exactly. I am starting to wonder if I hated B* and the Repukes
more than I wanted us to get in. But, I am looking
forward to undoing some of the mess and to doing
something good for those who have been forgotten.

But, there is definitely more of a rush on the
way up - than when you are at the pinnacle.

23. We hoped "Mainstream Corporate Media" would CHANGE..They didn't...
If anything they grew worse to protect their corporate Butts. That's what I'm feeling...anyway...and yes...know what you're talking about.

It was never going to be "Easy" ...we now see how hard it will be.

there will be lots of fireworks to look forward to when Dems attempt to clean up the unholy mess that's been made.

4. Probably because now the work begins. Winning was great, but
keeping the majority will take even more work. And with the scum left in the tub by the EX-MAJORITY, it won't be easy to fix things.

Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 05:19 PM by Warren Stupidity
and realize that the person you went to bed with looked a lot better last night than they do this morning. Or otherwise known as buyers remorse. It is still the same Democratic Party of Pink Tutus, Windsocks, and Professional Powder Driers. What did you expect? It is also still far far better than the alternative.

8. It's because we still have Junior and this awful war
we have been dragged against our will for 6 years by a man who won an election decided by
the Supreme Court, this is not done, is not official procedure, since then he has ruled
entirely outside the boundaries of our existing legal framework, indeed, the only rule
for him is that he wants what he wants when he wants it. We are hopeful that our country
will once again function as a democracy where our rulers must follow the dictates of the
Constitution and our body of laws. How many times have we been lied to, our wishes betrayed
in the last 6 years. That is why you are still feeling down, we are at the crossroads,
do we continue down this course for 2 more years or not. Are we going to exist with
a congress with no power, with a president who knows no limit to his power and a judiciary
whose 2000 ruling in Bush v Gore was capricious and outside the law.

We now have a check on Bush, but he's still in power.

25. And he will remain in power.....
.....as long as "impeachment is off the table". I'm feeling down because I'm already losing faith in the Democratic party. I'm afraid several signs of late coming from democrats do not bode well for us liberal progressives.

27. don't lose hope
I have been hearing some surprising news that some of those against impeachment are changing
their minds and these are the power brokers in Washington. It is because we have a failed
policy in Iraq, and a failed approach on the domestic front. 25% of American people have
done their Christmas shopping, which is not a good sign. Many of our retailers rely on
Christmas sales to stay in business. If there is no faith in the economy, and many feel
current policies are not helping, then where do we go from here. Everywhere you look there
is a dire situaton, Iraq, Israel, the falling dollar, the Housing slump, what can you
look at and say this Administration has had a handle on this and turned things around.
NOTHING. The Gulf Coast is still a mess, Osama is not caught, there is a tale of
massive fraud resulting in criminal charges at Homeland Security. Even those at the top
are starting to realize that there is no one driving the bus.

9. Take a break, try to regroup.
It's not uncommon to expend a lot of energy and emotion and hit a wall. As you say, this too shall pass. If one could see ahead, one might be encouraged or discouraged. The campaign to save our Country never really ends unless we surrender, you can bet the other side won't.

10. I concur. But remember, the Senate win wasn't exactly a landslide...
and I've heard that if a couple of Democrats went Independent that we would have the reverse situation of when it worked in our favor.

11. Sure, I feel "Letdown"
Let down and very disappointed that Rep. Conyers, and his fellow Democrats in Congress, are now backing off from investigating the unconstitutional and criminal acts of the Bush administration. Is appearing "bipartisan" more important than Constitutional Law?

I now wonder if there will even be a future for the Democrats if they don't respect the will of the people and hold these thugs accountable. For what it's worth, Rep. McKinney seems to be the only one responsible and aware of her duties.

12. Given the new phrase "Blue Dogs" (so-called centrist Democrats)...
Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 05:34 PM by Imagine My Surprise
I'm sure we'll continue to have things to be pissed off about pretty much 24/7, as always. It's great that the "Democratic Party" was able to wrest some of the social issues which have entrenched the Rethugs all these years. But in doing so, I expect to see a lot of Clinton-esque votes or worse.

15. If they continue to back off of impeachment and wave through the
worst GOP criminals into key positions (the Gates debacle), the Dem party will be crushed at the poll in 2008 and be dead within 5 years. The message sent on Nov 7 was crystal clear, but they seem to have not heard it.

21. It's our war now.
It is one thing to lash out at the Bush crime family and their republican supporters. You expect to be ignored. It is very different to have to go up against your friends, people who ought to know better. It can be very disheartening. The stakes could not be higher. We have a limited amount of time to produce real results. It's our war now.

Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 05:36 PM by Skittles
the initial win was exhilarating but the amount of mess to be cleaned up is daunting, and people are being killed every day. It's only natural our feelings of vindication would be just a spike that couple of nights in November.

17. The struggle continues. I think that
the changes we seek will not be brought about by elections, rather elections will reflect a change in consciousness of people. When we least expect it, we get the changes we have worked hard for. This opinion is shaped by Rebecca Solnit's short book. "Hope in the Dark."

18. For me, it's apprehension about 2008
Seeing certain members of the Democratic Party already getting cocky by assuming the Republicans will have no traction in '08, and jumping to the overly-simplistic supposition that "Hillary will be our savior, and finally get us universal health care."

By 2010, it could all be in shambles.

20. The "letdown" for me was
that I was so wrapped up in this election. I got email updates on where the candidates would be. I went here and there to support them. I donated, I called. I devoted a lot of time to help them get elected.

I got a nice thank you postcard from them.

And now nothing! I feel so personally involved that I want an update on how the meetings in Washington went. I want to know the candidates schedule. I want a darn blog to see what they are doing! I feel like part of the team and I don't hear from them. I almost feel like a jilted lover. LOL

24. Ha ha! I really wanted to know what committees Joe Sestak got on.
I went to his website and finally saw a link to a Philadelphia newspaper which gave me a little information but not nearly all that I wanted to find out. :(

I have to say I've enjoyed receiving several invitations to Jerry McNerny's celebratory wine and cheese parties. Trouble is, he lives in California and I live in North Carolina. LOL!

I guess I'll have to catch up with some of these candidates (about eight of them, I think) on C-Span. Thank goodness for C-Span! Can't wait to watch Jim Webb kick some butt! :)
