The Republicans have finally left town, or to be more honest about it, the Republicans have finally been run out of town. Washington is empty until the new Congress comes in. Like children waiting for Christmas, some folks are antsy to open their presents. They have been waiting patiently and now they have to wait until the Democrats come back to town. Many have not figured out what to do with their lives without the continuing tragedy of the Republicans in charge. Like the catsup that pours ever so slowly from the bottle, the anticipation is killing them... :)

...when they were run off, they left a barn full of...um...leavings.
Just doing damage control to keep the government in business is going to be a miserable hack to start with, since the budget legislation wasn't passed already. Then there's triage on everything from FEMA to the Pentagon, and, without some serious thinking, the number of investigations that can and will be instituted could consume a great deal of effort, energy and political capital that might be better spent elsewhere.
The knuckle and foot-dragging from the Repubs will inevitably make the new Democrat leadership team look slow and bumbling and is going to be a huge hurdle and you can count on every misstep being brayed to the sympathetic media. Then there will be the problems of the "winners" demanding retribution in loud and screechy tones, already I read the writing of some of our own not being happy that there arent' gibbets full of Republican bodies lining Pennsylvania Ave.
"Leavings" might be too mild a word... We're up against a world of s____!

I think Pelosi and Reid are very aware of these problems, and that's why they are trying to focus on some quick victories on the minimum wage and other matters on which there is strong support. It will be interesting to see whether the media's ownership cares more about manipulating public opinion or profits (coming through viewership, ratings and advertising $) now that power has shifted.
