tomorrow is the VA primary!
This will be my first primary, and I'm very excited about it! :bounce:By some stroke of luck, I managed to see John Kerry in Chesapeake yesterday, and it was much better in person than just watchng it on television. Dean was nowhere to be found, so...if he can't even make an effort to try and talk to us Virgnia voters before tomorrow, then my vote goes to Kerry.

I'm not a Green, DLC or DNC hack. If any Dean supporters disapprove of my vote (and I know alot will), too bad. Dean made no effort here after Iowa and NH. At least the others showed up. But I digress.

In any case, to my fellow Virginia voters, go out and vote tomorrow and in November, becuase every single vote DOES count. I'd rather vote and know I had some say, tan to sit here and cry,"my candidate didn't win, so I'll stay home".Now let's go out there and kick some BFEE butt! :bounce:

2. I wish you were voting for Edwards...
...but I'm glad you're casting your vote tomorrow. It is frustrating when you're out flyering and canvassing and so many people aren't interested in voting.

15. come on Zech, isn't there some way we can convince you?
It is much better for the party for this race to remain competitive and force the media to keep telling the public what our candidates are saying.

4. What's your prediction?
TV says Kerry will win Virginia by a landslide.
Something like Kerry 48% - Edwards 24%. I think Edwards will do better than that, especially in central and southern VA.
I'll let you know how we did in my precinct in No. VA after I get through counting the votes tomorrow.

6. Kerry will win, but Edwards will do better than that
he is from Nc after all, so that will get him some more votes. Clark will do ok too, they both had nice audiences at the dinner in Richmond the other night. Kerry at 48%?

19. Reports from the two precincts in my neighborhood.
    Precinct A,...Precinct B
  • 47%...........54%...........Kerry
  • 23%...........18%...........Edwards
  • 10%...........14%...........Clark
  • 13%...........08%...........Dean

Voted for Edwards, I think the man would make a fine president.

If Kerry is our man, I will support him with everything I can. He is also a fine man and will make a great president. We are blessed with so many good choices.

10. Please read this before you vote for Kerry!

Please consider Edwards. He is by far and away out most electable candidate. He's spent quite a bit of time here in Virginia. I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to see him.

If you live in Northern Virginia, he's going to be at the Fairlington Comunity Center polling place in Arlington Virginia around 8:00 am tomorrow morning.

address: 3308 S Stafford St. just off 33rd Rd.

I saw him in Richmond and I think he could be this generation's JFK. He is Bill Clinton minus the sex scandels, and he will absolutely beat George W. Bush.

Some of the reasons I think, Edwards is the most electable:
1.) He connects with voters like no other candidate. I'm from Ohio, a very important state in the general election, and I've had Democrats, Independents and moderate Republicans alike tell me, "you know who I like, John Edwards." In the general election, people vote for the candidate they like and trust, not the candidate with the longest resume.

If experience won elections, Schwarzeneger would not be Governor of California and Gore would have won in a landslide.

2.) I think Edwards may actually be the strongest candidate on defense because people trust him. Military experience alone doesn't make a candidate strong on defense if voters perceive him as someone who panders to public opinion instead of leading or if voters question his judgement. Unfortunatley, Kerry's voting record gives the Republicans lots of ammo to do this.

For example: (from NYTimes 1-25-04)
In 1997, he proposed a series of measures to cut intelligence spending. In the senate he asked why the Nation's "vast intelligence apparatus continues to grow even as government resources for new and essential priorities fall short of what is necessary."

His explanations of why he voted for this war and against the first Gulf War are inconsistent.

In the 1980's he opposed the death penalty for terrorists who killed Americans overseas.

Republicans have over $200 million dollars to spend on negative ads with quotes like these. Do you think Kerry will still be strong on defense when they are finished with him?

I like Kerry and think he would be a great President. Despite his heroic service to his country I'm afraid Republicans will do to him what they did to Max Cleland.

Anyway, i'm glad you're voting tomorrow even if you don't vote for Edwards. You are correct that none of us have a right to complain if we don't get involved

11. Dean is not my first choice, but...
"Dean was nowhere to be found, so...if he can't even make an effort to try and talk to us Virgnia voters before tomorrow, then my vote goes to Kerry."

I hope you are not basing your vote on this issue. Dean is not my guy, but none of the candidates can be everywhere. I am just trying to get a feel for how early primary voters choose their candidate because I am someone who does not get the chance to make a difference. My vote will be cast in May. It doesn't seem fair to base this decision on whether or not one gets to see the candidate in person. Just because Dean was not there doesn't mean he is not busting his * to try to get his message out and stay in the race.

And you are right in Virginia "every single vote DOES count". Early primary states decide for the rest of the country!

12. that wasn't the only reason
I've been going over all of the candidates, so I took my time and really watched and read up on them all.

And I understand that candidates can't be everywhere. I just thought that if Dean did want to at least make me reconsider, he'd show up here recently. He didn't so I wash my hands of him competely.

16. just back from voting!
to my surprise, the middle school where I vote at was open, but I heard the PA system mention something about an early release.

Anyway, there was a Kerry sign right at the entrance way, across from the "Voting Place" sign as well. There are 6 election officers insid, you go to the one based on the first letter of your last name.. I showed my ID and confirmed my addresss--bom, right on the list. I got a voter's pass, received my ballot, and did the deed. There was a steady turnout, as many peple prefer to vote after work (except for the General Electio--everyne was pouring in that morning) This time I did't see any repuke types with cell phones monitoring voter turnout or anything lse sneaky.

I filled out the scantron sheet and slid it in the machine--done :D
