How he is going to deal with the media's depiction of him as wooden?

And do you think the US will give a rats ass this time? It is not 2000.

1. The same way as ANY democrat will have to deal with media's depiction of them
as_______insert your own insult here. Democrats (any and all) will be slimed, GOP-ers beatified. Just hope the election system is clean by them and people learned the tricks.

2. He'll be himself which is not wooden...
His advisors wanted him to be more stiff in 2000 to contrast with Bush and appear as the rightful successor to the positive policy-oriented Clinton legacy.

Seriously, he has improved greatly since 2000 in that department.

Why now he's practically lifelike!

"I am not planning to run for president again," Gore said last week, arguing that his focus is raising public awareness about global warming and its dire effects. Then, he added: "I haven't completely ruled it out."

6. But not by enough
The Republicans have found a way (by cheating) to gain a 1-2% margin. They tried to use this in 2006 but it wasn't enough.

We will have to win by more than enough.

for the Democratic candidate.

It's called the Bush presidency.

He's been getting heavy television rotation lately, and always appears relaxed and funny while also exuding confidence and competence. I hope he runs.

9. Wooden? After we've suffered for 8 years with HOWDY DOODY?
I think the country will be ready for anyone who's SERIOUS, can pronounce NUCLEAR correctly and can speak extemporaneously without peppering his sentences with "uhhhhhh"s. I really hope that '08 will be less a personality contest and more the search for a competent leader who can clean up W's mess.

12. Maybe the media will feel obligated to be fair this time around?
Ok, I'm awake now.

That is a worry for me as well, though I think he is the best possible candidate. What worries me is that that image was instilled in many Americans, by the media in large part, in the run-up to the 2000 theft. Who knows if those people will fall back into that belief. Gore will have to fight hard to erase that negativity. And I think he can.

Will the media treat him a little more fairly this time around? Or will they catch him burping and play the clip over and over again, "the sigh' v2.0?

I think a lot depends on what the Dems do in Congress from now 'till then, how the Democrats are percieved in the next two years. And a lot depends on who'd be the running mate for Gore, and how he or she is percieved. (My pick, just for pure "winability," imho, would be Hillary - "Clinton/Gore becomes Gore/Clinton.) Of course, we have to rely on the media to shape those perceptions, eh?

At any rate, I think Gore is definitely the one that should be nominated and can win the GE. I can't think of anyone with a better shot.

14. By appearing competent.
I'm hoping that people are going to give less thought to who they would rather have a beer with next election, given that "Joe Sixpack" just took the country on a drunken joyride, and totalled it.

15. The word "wooden" was simply a base take on the "formality" of Gore's
presentation of himself to the public. As a child, Gore was a tremendous admirer of Cordell Hull. Hull was in Franklin Roosevelt's cabinet (Secretary of State?) and was also a Tennessean. Cordell Hull always had a formal presentation of himself, and that seemed to suggest to Gore, if one wanted to be in politics, that was the ideal posture.

There's nothing wrong with a little formality. During a certain time frame of our political lives, it was the norm of the day. Only recently have politicians let down their hair in the public eye and openly discussed more personal aspects of their lives. Yes, I smoked marijuana, but I never inhaled.

"Formality" should never be ridiculed as "wooden" as the Republicans called Gore. Having experienced the "baseness" of Bush* these last six years -- bring me the head of Osama bin Laden -- compared to Gore's formality, I prefer the latter any time.

Al Gore has a lot of class, and always has.

18. Sometimes a woody is a good thing...compared to a doorknob.
In 2000, Al's personality was measured against Big Dog's larger than life persona. I feel there is enough evidence now that this man is of considerable intelligence AND dry wit. Just this quote from big Al alone gets the point across:

"The day I made that statement, about the inventing the internet, I was tired because I'd been up all night inventing the Camcorder."

He reminded me of my more competent bosses and college professors.

But it's the media's painting of him that's wooden that scares me.

29. The problem is not with Al, it's with the mass corporate media
The only other alternative is allow the very people which enabled Bush to power to select our next one!? No thanks!

I hope this doesn't sound wooden but as for me they can stick an oak branch in their collective knot holes.

Does the fact that he's not running for president have any impact on your choice?

Why do so many people in this party support people that A. Are not running, or B. Can't win?
