This is an unscientific AOL poll, but it's still interesting considering there are over 400,000 votes. Of course this also may be skewed because Obama is more appealing than Hillary.

Is America ready to elect a female president?
Yes 47%
No 45%
Not sure 8%
Total Votes: 465,392

Is America ready to elect a black president?

1. Surprised
I saw that poll. I was a little surprised by the amount of people who said that they wouldnt vote for a black candidate. It just feels like something that people dont come out and say, even to know nobody knows that they voted that way.

2. It certainly gives credence to Justice O'Connor's argument

that affirmative action plans must stay in place for a few more decades.

Can you imagine questions on whether you would vote for a male for president or a white for president?

How far we still have to go for true equality of all people. We're still hung up on gender and ethnicity.

How very sad.

3. Looks like one of those classic cases where I wouldn't expect
the actual behavior to track the expressed openness. People often answer hypotheticals in a socially desirable way and then do the opposite when the rubber hits the road.

4. I.e., people poll "better than themselves". Too often true. nt

5. AOL polls unreliable because...
besides not be scientific, people are drawn to the poll by the topic. It probably drew a lot of conservatives because they hate both of them. For example, there was a poll done on AOL for Fox News' 10th anniversary, asking if they were fair and balanced. Normally these polls skew well left, except this time, the poll had a large majority saying that they WERE fair and balanced. An AOL poll's majority opinion was also that Apocalypto would draw over 45 million this weekend. Any idiot knew this movie would do nothing. These polls suck.
