Its long past time to adopt one of the "Kerry 03 doctrines" ...... the one on terrorism.

I called it a "Kerry 03 Doctrine" just for this thread's title.

I'm referring to the slandered, media-misrepresented, and attacked position of John Kerry (among others) in the 03 primary debates/hustings. The one where Kerry suggested that 'terrorism' was much more a police matter than a military matter.

Look at where we are:

We're at war for bullshit reasons, all intentionally, but **OH** so wrongly, tied to the issue of 'terrorism'.

Our travel experiences have deteriorated to being treated as suspects before the fact. We're poked and prodded and searched and made to stand barefoot in long queues. This serves little if any serious purpose, but instead conditions us to be compliant and, well, scared.

Our borders are still wide open.

Our cargoes are still largely uninspected.

We're made to show IDs and prove our citizenship to get a fucking library card, let alone a bank account or a prescription from a doctor.

The simple fact is, this whole Big Brother Bullshit is the specific, thought-out plan of the Republic Party and the Neocons to keep the sheeple in line and voting for the 'tough guys'. It is a play to keep power. Nothing more and nothing less.

For every bullshit, made-up problem, the answer is more military or paramilitary action. TSA - the nation's crotch sniffers - are a military-like organization.

The private 'security teams' at every public building are paramilitary organizations.

The very word 'security' has morphed into one that conjures up visions of big guys with shaved heads and wide leather belts bristling with various apparatus of 'human control'.

In the meantime, whatever busts have happened have happened by good police work, luck, some intelligence (usually locally gathered), and the good guys trying to do a good job.

This crap has to end and end NOW. The Democrats need to disband these new (what a creepy fucking name) Homeland Security paramilitary forces. Put the funding into local police forces and into a central clearing/coordination agency. let the feds establish standards ... fine. But leave the job up to the states and the governors and the mayors.

The more we nationalize this crap, the closer we get to George Orwell's very frightening vision of America.

And what of the actual threat of terrorism? I've heard (too lazy to find the link) that on an individual basis it is LESS than the chance of getting struck by lightning.

And as for the borders? That's a separate matter. It has little to do with terror and much to do with Mexicans and American xenophobia.

I am so fucking SICK of living in a fascist state and having to show my papers every fucking where I go.

A new Congress doesn't mean that everything is going to be just ducky. Even if the Dems pass new laws rescinding previously passed legislation, the Chimp can simply veto it. And we are by no means a veto proof majority. Hell, even getting the 51-49 Senate to pass something that rescinds the Patriot Act will be really hard. Does anyone think Joementum will side with the Dems on that (and probably another dozen Dems as well). So that's a problem. To truly get our country back we need a 55-45 Dem/progressive Senate, possibly a few more House seats (to counteract the bluedogs) and a Democratic President.

The Repukes did SO much harm in their six years of power.

OTOH, President Hillary will just love her new powers to detain and torture a bunch of freepers.
