Dear Clark Supporters
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 11:16 PM by WillyBrandt
Our guy is an underdog among underdogs. We know he's the best person is an excellent pack; and I don't know about you, but I've worked hard to see him to victory.

For him to win, the unexpected needs to happen. We've got a chance, but it's an outside chance; and the outline of the future will become clearer after tomorrow's primaries conclude.

Anyway, I wanted to thank all of you for your support of the General and of each other. We've got a pretty motley crew assembled here: proud DLCers, left-wing Greens, center-lefters, old-fashioned liberals, conflicted progressives (like myself), and those who smartly focus more on fact than label. Perhaps it's the naivite of volunteering on my first campaign, but it's been a terribly exciting time.

Volunteering in NH showed me a motely crew in real life: old folks, Southerners travelling Northwards, a huge gaggle of Ivy League snots, Clintonistas (for real ones), peaceniks, high school kids, and many more who saw in Clark the fusion of many figures that are rare nowadays: the honest intellectual, the courageous man, the soldier-scholar, the patriot (in the best sense of the word), and the Democrat who spoke with the fire of a convert. If the White House is occupied by the personification of mendacity and mediocrity, this challenger is a refreshing antithesis, like a fresh slice of watermelon after seeing rotten tuna all day. So to speak.

Anyway. I hope this doesn't read like an elegy, because I've got both hope and trembling as tomorrow's primaries draw closer. I just wanted to share some thoughts on the eve of (yet another) brush with destiny.

Keep truckin'

1. We're gonna pull Tennessee out.
It'll be close, but I truly believe we will pull it out. We've really reached out to the voters of TN and I have to believe that hard work will pay off.

15. I won't! :)
Honestly, I wish more voters would vote with their hearts and minds instead of which way the wind blows.

Good luck to your candidate, tomorrow. (And good luck to mine!)

2. Clark unites Americans of all backgrounds
He led Americans from all backgrounds in the military and that has a lot to do with his widespread support among different groups of people. Go Clark Go!

3. We've come along way
since Sept 17, or earlier if you were a drafter. Clark is the right man at this time for our country. But he represents change, and people are resistant to change. Every pundit on the news, and press releases from party insiders, demonstrates this resistance.

I believe Clark will have a good day tomorrow, even if it is not as good as we would like. We must continue on to Super Tuesday. We're not done yet, anything can happen. I still believe it.

:toast:

4. No Willy, you are fine, and you are true
We are on the eve of an important battle. Only a fool would say victory is assured. I agree with all of your sentiments. I have been encouraged by my Tennessee calls. I know sure as Hell that I didn't have a cherry picked list of Clark leaners. They like our man down there, but powerful forces have opposed us. WE will be on the phones if not at work tomorrow, and then the results will be upon us. Now is the time for reflection on what a wonderful group of people we have all been able to meet through Clark's quest. If we lose, we will go down fighting. If we win, we will have much to be proud of. Real Clark supporters are doing everything that we can to help this man who we have come to believe in so deeply. We may even do enough to pull this one out. If not, Clark has already made a mark on America, and he certainly has on Bush.

6. I just...
looked at some polls and then wished I hadn't..but now we've got to remember that the only polls that matter are the ones that the voters of TN and VA will be going to tomorrow.

I want to thank all of you guys for all the work you've put in! You're all great. :grouphug:

I'm all for election day surprises, here's to hoping we have one tomorrow! :toast:

8. I haven't given up hope
yet. I hope he is able to stay in even if he doesn't win one tomorrow. If Kerry crashes we will need him, maybe people will start looking at him. He is so great and has said a lot of what needed to be heard.

10. I don't know about the rest of you, but I used to live in Tenn.
Tazewell to be exact, that's who I E:Blocked tonight.....

If John Kerry wins by a landslide tomorrow, I will be shocked to say the least. No, I expect a very, very close race with Clark pulling it off.

I could be wrong about this, but I was born in Alabama, and lived my life as a child in Georgia, South Carolina, Tenn. and then back to Alabama.

In the Navy I lived nine years in Virginia, and now I live in Florida, so I know the South PRETTY well.

Clark by the slightest of margins tomorrow in Tenn. and stand-by for a Media shocker once it's over.

The FOX Gang will be raising HELL on Wednesday morning.....

11. If he (we) can pull this off
it will change the political landscape in the US for the next 3 generations. His nomination could set our party and our nation up for a century as great as the last one.

Why? The media (not Faux, but the real media) love this guy. People around the world love this guy. He would have coattails in the South and West to bring our party back to life in those areas. He crosses boundaries of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, and even party lines. If he were to run against * in the GE, there would be world-wide celebration on 11/3. We would be respected and loved again, immediately.

JFK will be a good candidate, and hopefully we can pull him through the GE, but the Rockies and South will remain GOP strongholds during a Kerry presidency. The General will bring them home to our party.

There's next Tuesday, then there's next Saturday, and the last thing I need is worrying about the good ole Bundeskanzler's firepower!

C'mere...

Ah! Here's a picker-upper: got a nice scoop in for the General today, as the first and only local campaign representative for any candidate hittin' it home en español for the General in Northern NV - gawd willing it'll be aired on the Spanish TV channel tomorrow evening, exhorting the Dems to show up at the caucus next Saturday here. Score one for el general!

Now... Pip pip, stiff upperlip and all that rot - and let's mess up some more of those bloody jerries, ole chap! ;)

Clark is head and shoulders above the front runner that it almost seems as if the media is setting us up by giving more coverage to the weakest candidate under the pretense of "electability" which is based on TV exposure.

30. Whoa! He's rousing some rabble in this speech.
I was going to bed and now I'm too riled up to sleep. Listen to it from beginning all the way to the end. He is seriously pissed off about the state of this country and he intends to do something about it. Anybody who thinks Wes is out of the race, I have a bridge to sell you.
