John Edwards is doing an INCREDIBLE job on Hardball !! (Tweety's 1st day back)

Tweety gave him one of those pop quiz's (like the one they pulled on Reyes ... you know.. the one that CNN said that Bush actually did worse than Reyes on, but that it never made news.. you know the one...)

Edwards pretty much nailed it, only missing one.. Matthews was stunned at how knowledgeable Edwards is -- even when he's caught off guard. Tweety said "Wow, you are GOOD!!"

Elizabeth Edwards is on next ~~

Great job John & Elizabeth !! ~~

1. People are ignoring Edwards at their peril
If Obama enters, Edwards chances dim somewhat, but he'll still have a good shot. He still polls very well in Iowa, Nevada, and South Carolina. Even Obama said yesterday on Ed Schultz not to ignore Edwards (who he also praised as a great public servant).

And if Obama DOESN'T enter, then Edwards has, I think, a better shot than Hillary Clinton.

3. remember when Kerry came out of the early caucuses and primaries as a "surprise"
the meme was that the electorate wanted the STRONGEST candidate. we wanted the sure-shot -- not the historic, "gee it would be nice if" candidate.

i think Edwards is looking great in this respect.

7. I'm SOOOOO Glad You Just Stated The Obvious!!!
As a Liberal, AND a BOOMER I became an Edwards convert during the 2004 election. Once I saw him in person and got to shake his hand and feel a certain sincere spirit about him, I simply have never looked back. Then after I got to see Elizabeth, my fate was sealed!! These two together are exactly what I envision America is really about!

Each of us has our own set of flaws and running for office you get nit-picked to death, but the fact that after the election he went out and rolled up his sleeves to work for those less fortunate showed me that he was "more" than just a suit! I realize many here are in disagreement, but that's okay, every candidate has certain draw backs and each person is welcome to rally behind their own. But for me, it's John Edwards and I really really think he has what it takes.

What a complete 360 from what we are experiencing now! How could we have been so robbed. And if Gore were to throw his hat in, it would be difficult for me... but I would love to see a Gore/Edwards ticket. I saw that because Gore actually served as VP for 8 years and it would give Edwards even more experience and set him up to run as President the next time around!!

Go, Johnny, GO!!!!

60. Yep, a Gore/Edwards ticket would be
unstoppable....and then Edwards for another 8....hell, we just might be able to save the world from the destructive path that the neocons have put us on after all!

That would give me great hope....but in the meantime, could we get behind PELOSI '07?

thx.

107. I don't agree. We absolutely must have someone with a strategic backgroun in international affairs.
Edwards does have the charisma and looks (sorry, but this is a reality in the age of television). He probaly also have the intelligence, but he simply doesn't have the experience (which looking at Chimp's experience doesn't mean he couldn't be elected). I really think to do a good job as president and straighten out (if possible) the mess Chimp has made of the world we need to get someone with serious international experience.

57. Yeah, I Watched The Show Twice Myself... Can't Help It... He Just
seems so "natural" and after watching him the second time he came across so much more confident and comfortable. No matter what he decides I think we could do a lot worse.

I do like Obama a great deal too, but if I had to choose between the two, it will be Edwards. He seems so much more together these days and doesn't come off as flippant or prejudiced. I especially liked it when he said that he no longer worries about how his speeches are going to be received or whether the audience is going to be impressed. That's confidence showing and that's just being natural, and I LIKE it a lot!

If these two were in the WH I don't think Americans would be looked upon as evil & corrupt anymore. I think we would regain a lot of respect that has been lost. However, WHY anyone would want to try to repair what these evil war mongers have done to our country is a mystery to me. It's REALLY going to be some very HARD WORK!!!

But some folks in Virginia have noted that Clarkies are intolerant of other viewpoints: thou shall not piss off Clark supporters on blogs. Yes, I can prove it, but won't at present to protect the blogger as s/he is new to the blogosphere.

Clarkies either need to be polite or be very constructive in criticism to give some thought in how they disagreed with JRE's answers in the program. We don't invade your total love fests with Clark; we respect it. If it is a mixed post, asking Edwards supporters for thoughts, then that is a different case.

Clarkies need to learn their place. Please show some manners: it is the military way, as General Clark would do.

Be happy Hotline TV recognized General Clark was the 3rd most popular among bloggers today.

Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 09:14 PM by FrenchieCat
then you were overreacting.....and of course Catch would jump in since the water's warm. :eyes:

and you may not want to discuss grammar too much when you determined based on your preconceived notion to apply meaning 3a instead of 1a-b, 2, 3b, 4a-b, and 5 to my comment (which mentioned nary a word about Wes Clark, nor a harsh word in reference to Edwards' Hardball performance).......

Main Entry: per·for·mance
Pronunciation: p&(r)-'for-m&n(t)s
Function: noun
1 a : the execution of an action b : something accomplished : DEED, FEAT
2 : the fulfillment of a claim, promise, or request : IMPLEMENTATION
3 a : the action of representing a character in a play b : a public presentation or exhibition <a benefit performance>
4 a : the ability to perform : EFFICIENCY b : the manner in which a mechanism performs <engine performance>
5 : the manner of reacting to stimuli : BEHAVIOR
6 : the linguistic behavior of an individual : PAROLE; also : the ability to speak a certain language -- compare COMPETENCE 3
http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/performance

Wes Clark won't be "invited"....cause that's not how the media works. At this point, I'm in Wes Jr.'s corner when he says he hopes his father doesn't run.

It really is a cheap thing to do.

I saw Wes' C-Span performance today, and I have to say........that is what a wise leader looks like. Leading is much more than coming up with catchy soundbytes, championing already popular issues and looking the part. It's about explaining where you stand and why. It's about providing wisdom and ideas to give us food for thought, and not attempting to say what is popular just because it is popular.

...that he is constantly derided. So much so that a real discussion of him can't take place.

My skin is not too thick when it comes to attacks on Edwards. Legitimate criticism I can take. But the incessant disdain, the inability to let a favorable comment stand. There are a handful with something bordering on obsession, it seems. Hard to take.

Good luck with Kerry. I hope there can be real discussion. (I think, by the way, the one of the most unfair judgements at play these days is the attacks on Kerry for the botched joke. Good lord, it was just a botched joke. Let it go, press and Repubs, and even some Dems. Let it go)

Mexico - was Vicente Fox; recently replaced by someone of same party after extremely close and hotly-contested election, but can't remember the name!

27. I'm more and more convinced
that John Edwards is going to be the next President of the U.S.

The pundits who are pushing HIllary and Obama seem to be overlooking the fact that Edwards has a huge ground operation in Iowa and Nevada and could likely pull off a win in both states. If he does respectably in NH and then wins South Carolina, he is then the undisputed frontrunner for the nomination.

98. Having seen in person his comedy during commercials and before the show...
everyone realized his humor in certain statements that seem to offend so many on here. The crowd loved it and mind you it's a very pro-Edwards, pro-Democrat, and pro-liberal crowd at UNC. Those questions, while ridiculous, were part of his humor. I can see how his humor could be seen as something else without having seen the pre-show warmup and comments between commercials. Everyone knew it was just silliness, even John and Elizabeth. It was a fun time.

40. Chris Matthews
Personally, I thought Chris Matthews showed a lack of class with his crude comments and especially so at that hour of the afternoon. Elizabeth quite capably advised him her children were watching. People who have to use crude language to express themselves are only acknowledging their severe lack of command of the English language or whatever language they are communicating in.

62. Personally, I Think Tweety Was Trying To Do The HARDBALL
job, but IMO he actually realized it wasn't working. I didn't think Tweety was being mean because as I said before, I think Tweety REALLY DOES like Edwards a LOT!! That's what I saw anyway, having seen Tweety many other times.

If I had to bet, I would say Tweety would actually vote for Edwards if he was the nominee! First day back and he was just trying to do the usual Hardball Show. What was quite interesting was just how well John & Elizabeth handled the whole interview. I just commented how natural they seemed and others here said the same. There is just something about the two that make me feel very comfortable and impressed at the same time.

And wouldn't it be nice to see young kids in the WH again???

71. Clark/Edwards would be a great ticket.
I adore Gore, but the media would never let him get by. They would destroy him just to cover up for what they did to him last time.

My ideal ticket, if we could have it, which I don't think we can, would be Gore/Clark.

I do hope her health is solid. She's lost a lot of weight, probably due to the chemo and cancer treatment.

They both sounded great.

Edwards sounds really liberated out of office, somewhat like Al Gore.

I'm sure the weight loss was due to a lot of effort on her part. Those whom I've seen who have taken chemo have gained weight or been more bloated or whatever. They have indicated that she is doing fine now, thankfully.

88. Remember Matthews spinning after the VP debate...
...couldn't believe how well Cheney did...that he "came loaded for bear and found squirrel" against Edwards. It was disgusting false propaganda at its worst and that was the last time I watched him on TV. Edwards did very well, at least as well as Cheney who lied his ass off. I wrote the network and told them of my shock and amazement and that I wouldn't tune in again.

Matthews is an irresponsible and immoral commentator, and only slightly better than Hannity and Rush, IMO. That he occasionally appears even-handed makes him even more dangerous.
