7. from wiki
However, in June, the Supreme Court ruled that the Texas Legislature had violated the Voting Rights Act when it drew most of Laredo out of the 23rd and replaced it with several heavily Republican San Antonio suburbs. A three-judge panel then drew new district lines. The new 23rd includes Rodriguez's home, along with much of his old south San Antonio base. On August 10, Rodriguez announced that he would run against Bonilla in the 23rd.<1> The two opponents, along with original Democratic congressional nominee Rick Bolanos and four other Democrats and one Independent faced each other in an all-candidate primary on November 7. In the only unresolved election among Texas's 32-member Congressional delegation, Henry Bonilla emerged with 48.1% and Ciro Rodriguez with 20.3%. A runoff will be held on December 12, 2006.

29 pickups from the Republicans.

It's 30 pickups if you include the Vermont seat as a "pickup"; it was held by Bernie Sanders (I), but he caucused with the Democrats.

25. Well, look who turned up to tout Bonilla..... "P"

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS/ERIC GAY

Rep. Henry Bonilla, R-San Antonio, is joined by George P. Bush, son of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and nephew of President Bush, as he visits volunteers at his campaign headquarters in San Antonio on Monday. Bonilla, who is seeking an eighth term, faces Democratic challenger Ciro Rodriguez in a runoff election in the redrawn District 23 on Tuesday.

Notice how they're trotting out "P" everywhere these days?

36. San Antonio Express-News: Rodriguez jumps to early lead
Democratic challenger Ciro Rodriguez jumped to an early lead in the first returns recorded in Tuesday’s runoff congressional election.

Early voting in Bexar County gave Rodriguez 11,846 votes to incumbent Republican Henry Bonilla’s 9,191. Statewide, with only 10 percent of the votes in, including the Bexar County vote totals, Rodriguez led with 56 percent of the vote compared to 44 percent for Bonilla, according to the Texas Secretary of State.

Those votes included the Bexar County early voting totals, which were released after the polls closed at 7 p.m.

From San Antonio to El Paso, a slow but steady stream of voters made their way to the ballot boxes today as the last congressional election of the year finally came to a close.

45. Excellent! Time for the Bonillas to leave Washington!
This is great news, and if I'm not mistaken, DeLAy's wranglers tried to gerrymander this district for Bonilla, but they sued and got it overturned. too bad Ciro can't/wouldn't make a comment on the deLay blog about sticking it to Tom one more time for Christmas!:
