Did Saudi Arabia threaten the US last night with supporting the |
|
Sunnis if the U.S. withdraws from Iraq, or am I delusional? I thought this would be plastered everywhere today, but nary a peep have I heard about it. So, did it happen, didn't it, have the media whores been told to ignore it and, if so, why? Isn't this a potentially shattering development Americans should know about?

4. Thanks. I know that; I'm wondering why there isn't a discussion |

in the "news" or what passes for it nowadays. Princess Diana's 10-year old mystery death seems to be taking center stage.

7. It was first mentioned last week |
|
when it was noted in the Washington Post that SA money was knowingly or unknowingly flowing to the Sunni insurgency. The Saudi have already stated that the would do what ever it takes to make sure the Shittes don't plow over the Sunnis. This 'threat' was probably made to Bush years ago. Who knows, maybe the Saudi's wanted us in Iraq to counter balance against the Iranians. who the fuck knows. What we do know is that the situation is a diaster. and with the republicans losing control of congress it's even starting to sink into Bush's thick fucking skull what a diaster it is. Now they are trying to pivot the diaster onto to us Democrats.

previous discussion of this. I'm floored that this isn't a 'big deal'. Dimson surely has boxed himself in, hasn't he. I hope the Dems get really loud over this.

9. If the Saudis support the Sunnis ... |
|
how is that a threat to us?
Are they worse than Shiites? If the Saudis can stabilize the country, fine. Let's give them the job, and pull ourselves out.

10. I don't think it was a threat |

They have already promised to support the Sunni's if we pull out. The thing that scares the rest of the world powers is a regional war between Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordon, against Iran and Syria. And it will happen, make no mistake.

Should we try and get to a table and bring everyone to it and iron this shit out best we can....or should we just ran the heck out and don't look back!

13. No, they're simply telling Iran that they won't let it interfere without consequences. |

That's stating the obvious: the Saudis don't want the Sunni minority to end up steamrolled under an Iran-inspired Shiia hegemony.
It's about as "newsworthy" as previous, similar statements in reverse from Teheran, rejecting a situation where the Shiia majority continues ruled by a Sunni minority.
People in the US would be much wiser to take the Saudi message as an exhortation to include Iran in negotiations, instead of as fuel for the current foolhardy exclusion of Iran from negotiations (and for which the nuclear issue is gladly abused as a phony alibi by the Bush admin, by the by!)
