We need a healthy dose of trust, but verify.... |
|
There is no room in government for that hoary phrase, trust us....
We should never trust anyone with the awesome power of the president, whether they be democrat or republican, without some sort of verification that they do, indeed, deserve out trust...
That is why the Founding Fathers designed an elaborate system of checks and balances on power in the United States...
We, as citizens, abdicate our role in this democracy if we do not insist on verification at every step of the way...
That is why the GOP lost bad in this latest election...
They refused to verify the actions of the executive even when damning evidence was mounting against the administration...
Never, ever again should we trust the political leadership in the country...
If we do, then we no longer deserve to call ourselves a democracy....
I know we cried long and loud for that verification from our tiny part of the world...
But it obviously wasn't enough...
We need to push, push and push some more so that something like Bush will never happen again...

2. And that means the Dems aren't given a pass |
|
I'm waiting and hoping that when the Dems take over Congress they start righting the wrongs done by the GOP neocons. If they don't, and it's the same old same old, they will be deserted by the electorate just as the GOP was. There are a lot of folks out there already disgusted by the fact the Dems (with a few notable exceptions) did nothing to stop the erosion of our rights, etc, etc, in the past couple of years, and they are ready and willing to back a third party to get us out of the mess.
