1. Harkin?
If he makes the top ten list then there must not be many vulnerables. He has previously beaten 5 sitting congressman, the Iowa Repubs are in disarray, there are no big name candidates seriously considering a bid, and Iowa is bluer than it has been in 35+ years ... Harkin's name is gold in Iowa right now. There is some discussion that the R's may even take a pass and not invest in a race here in 08.

I am hoping that the radical right congressman Steve King runs against Harkin so that we can get rid of King once and for all.

2. Same with Lautenberg
This list is GOP wishful thinking.

3. None
Not a one of those dems is in any trouble.

Seriously. Lautenberg? If Menendez didn't go down, none of them will. Harkin? Please.

4. Landrieu always has a tough race.
But I doubt she'd actually lose.

7. I think she is in a really tough position
her performance during the Katrina debacle was effectively spun by the corporate media as really bad.

5. Lautenberg has burned a few bridges in the NJ party.
He pissed off a lot of people with his vote to give Bush dictatorial powers this year, and some of us also feel that he should retire and let us have someone who can serve more than, maybe, one more term.

6. Yes, if "vulnerable" means could lose in the primary, then I guess
Lautenberg and Baucus would qualify. But NJ is blue, and Tester and Schweitzer will pull whoever is our nominee through in MT. I don't think Harkin or Landreiu are going anywhere.

10. Agreed.
I personally wouldn't vote for any of the Republicans in this state, but I'd be tempted to vote against Lautenberg in the primary.

My dream is that Frank LoBiondo gives up his house seat to run against Lautenberg or an unnamed Democrat. That would open up a seat for us in the House very quickly, since the 2nd District has been getting progressively bluer.

9. The best part of the 2008 senate races is...
Dems have to defend 12 seats, Repubs have to defend 21.

There are some pretty strong rumors that some high profile Rs are going to retire as well, making them possible pick-ups for the good guys. (Would Mark Warner in VA face a serious challenge if John Warner retired?)

I am usually very much a pessimist, but I can definitely see Dems netting at least 2-3 seats in the Senate (to show I'm a pessimist, on election eve here, I predicted we'd get 3 senate seats and 12-15 house seats) Two seats would make it 51-47-2, while three would be a nice 52-46-2

That would mean a lot less power for Lieberman as well.
