Let us embrace the overwhelming national support we garnered with the 2006 election. If the Senate repugs behave as badly as they have for the past 6 years then another 2 years should predictably be no different. We can continue to expose their abusive shortcomings and win many Senate seats in 08.......We have the attention of th World! Tomorrow is another day.

4. I think the media has it wrong
..first of all you are correct "we ain't lost nothin yet"..But I believe since that is seat held by a Democrat it would be the state Democratic party that appoint his successor (at least that that's the way it is in most states..)

5. (sigh) The law in South Dakota:
12-11-1. Special election to fill congressional vacancy--Time of election of representative. If a vacancy occurs in the office of a senator or representative in the United States Congress it shall be the duty of the Governor within ten days of the occurrence, to issue a proclamation setting the date of and calling for a special election for the purpose of filling such vacancy. If either a primary or general election is to be held within six months, an election to fill a vacancy in the office of representative in the United States Congress shall be held in conjunction with that election, otherwise the election shall be held not less than eighty nor more than ninety days after the vacancy occurs.

Idiot laura MacDonald, married to Dan Senior that Frankenstein looking creep from the Iraq Provisional Authority, keeps lying saying he appoints Senator.

Douche bag hussy she is.

9. I certainly don't want to loose anything.....
Additionally, you have no clue as to what I hate and do not hate......Your finger pointing is one of "my hates" if you need to be informed.

Senator Johnson sounds ill. His quality of life is most important to me....What happens....happens...I'm looking at out positives and strengths.

3. If you mean lose the Senate,
then you are being short-sighted. If we don't control the Senate, by 2008 we may not even have elections. It would be a simple process to pack the courts with partisan hacks (already 90% done), then start vigorously purging voting rolls (a la FL and OH) so that it will be nearly impossible to cast a vote for a Dem in 2008.

8. What would Wellstone say?
---- Surely there's a state with a republican senator AND a democratic governor.

6. I hope
that Senator Johnson makes a speedy and full recovery. That there is no permanent damage, and he and his family come through this ok. The rest will take care of itself.

Haven't heard anything on the case since.

However, I must also tell you that I posted on that thread and argued that we should not subvert the will of the people by appointing a Democrat should that Senator die. There are right ways and wrong ways to do things.

15. Personally, I agree with you.
Unless we have to do it to RESTORE the will of the people. Ahem.

But who here honestly thinks the Republican governor of S.D. would appoint a Dem, should Sen. Johnson's seat become vacant (God forbid!)?

16. I find it so frustrating that...
we identify what would be the most evil thing to do, Republicans do that very thing, and we all let them get away with it without even uttering fighting words.

"we" in this case does not include present company, just our overall representation.
