Giuliani scores high among Republicans, even conservatives
Most DUers seem to not take him seriously as a candidate because he is more liberal than Bill Clinton on social issues, had a very high profile divorce and dressed in drag once... but, he has incredibly high favoribility ratings among Republicans, even among the most conservative.

However, most Republicans are followers and he has been a loyal Bush supporter all along.

>>>>
Among Republicans, the two best-known and most popular potential candidates are former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Both are viewed favorably by more than 80 percent of Republicans.

Giuliani, renowned for his leadership role after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, surpassed the 80 percent favorability mark even among conservative Republicans - in spite of his liberal record. He has formed a presidential exploratory committee.

The view of McCain is more mixed among Republicans, with 65 percent viewing him favorably and 20 percent unfavorably.

Although many Democrats know little about Obama, those who had an impression were overwhelmingly supportive - 54 percent gave him a favorable rating, only 5 percent were unfavorable

1. Most of the rank and file "red-staters" only know of Guliani because of 9/11
When his primary oponents start running ads about how he shacked up with a gay couple after his adulterous affiar and divorce look to his support to crumble among Republican primary voters.

4. Do you think that will bother them?
The Republican spin-masters & the media were able to repackage a man who is shallow and soulless and does not speak well, who used cocaine, was an alcoholic, deserted during a time of war, and was born in Connecticut to an artistocratic family and change him into a down-to-earth Texas cowboy and a good Christian man.

If they can remake Bush like that, they can certainly repackage Giuliani.

3. I think these conservatives and rethugs are grasping at straws.
There are so few names in the rethug hat, they're thinking Giuliani is the lesser of other evils, but may change their tune once his background and ideology are trashed about.

5. ..
The repubs do not want someone like Guilliani to run. But they know it will be hard to get people to not vote for him in a primary because they have no one else. McCain is to old & this will definitely be in the people minds when the vote in the primaries. Guilliani will discourage the base with his gay support issues. That will either cause them to not turn out to vote or to vote for the Democratic candidate.

The right wingers know Hilary will find it hard to win a presidential election, even against Guilliani, so they continuously try to make her look good to the democrats. This will ensure a victory in the primaries for her. When it comes to Obama they do not want him to win a primary because if he comes up against Guilliani then the right wing Christians may turn out to vote for Obama. A perfect race for a democratic victory in my books will be Guilliani vs Obama. We will have our democratic president sitting in the WH in 2009.

8. Robertson has given Giuliani his blessing
I'll have to see if I can find the interview, but the interviewer seemed surprised, and even pointed out some of Rudy's liberal positions when he re-asked the question.

9. So the "values voters" are flexible as long as it's the (R) candidate
whose morals are suspect.

Hypocrites.

10. you got it
was it Bill Maher who came up with "cafeteria Christianity"? How it seems that some high profile Christians pick and choose which parts of the Bible to follow.

McCain has a 20% unfavorable rating among Repubs despite a pretty conservative voting record - why, because he had a couple of high profile disagreements with Team Bush while Rudy has been a loyal party foot soldier.

12. That one is easy to spin
That one is easy to spin – “Rudy has a great sense of humor and is confident enough in his masculinity that he can wear as dress in a comedy routine. It shows his great sense of humor and an appreciation of classic theatre where men used to portray women on stage."
