In 2006 the Sierra Club endorsed 228 Congressional candidates. 217 were Democrats (95%)
Only 10 of the 228 were Republicans (4%). They endorsed 1 Independent, Bernie Sanders.

Of their 20 endorsements in the Senate, there were 17 Democrats, 2 Republicans, and the one Independent.

Of their 208 endorsements in the House, 200 were Democrats and 8 were Republicans.

Once again, when it comes to the environment, Democrats blast Republicans clear out of the water.

To see the entire list of Sierra Club endorsements, state by state, Senate and House...or if you're just curious to see which of the few repukes got endorsed by the Club, check out this link:

1. As global warming and environmental catastrophe
become more apparent, maybe more folks will realize that the Dems are not only on the side of the people but on the side of the planet....

2. The environment is SUCH a strong point, we need to use it more in upcoming elections
to show the country the vast difference between the good guys and the bad guys. The Republicans' views on the environment kind of epitomizes them as the scoundrels that they are in general.

We need to make the environment a top priority in 2008 to help offset what the Repukes will do with their scare tactics on security.

5. And we won't even have to use scare tactics
because I fear the coming earth changes will be scary enough in and of themselves.

3. I have a real fear that time is not on our side. It will take a TEAM of top lawmakers
steeped in environmental knowhow to even HOPE to reverse some of the damage in any timely manner. So hard to do without true environmentalists in the White House - even if it does go to a Dem in 2009. All Dems are NOT equal on environmental efforts. TOO few, in fact.

4. very very true
I know some here scoff at bipartisanship, but I know we will need everyone we can to help us get out of the environmental mess.

6. Ross Gelbspan noted it will take "more than the environmental movement" to prevent global warming
This is not just a matter of legislating a new Clean Air Act or fuel economy standards. The scale of outreach and the change needed in culture is huge. I think you know that. People are going to have to organize through every possible social or professional structure.
