I wouldn't be surprised, sincerely, to find out that * truly doesn't even know what people think about him--he ignores anything remotely "liberal" or "Democrat" out of hand, he's intellectually incurious ("InCurious George"; a baad little monkey) and doesn't read--he probably doesn't even watch the kinds of TV (other than cartoons) that might expose him to even that little bit of criticism that the media lets through their "protect/support Bush" filter. The closest he's come is asking Karl Rove, "turdblossom, how come my 'proval ratin' ain't doin' so good?". What the turd-man answered might be interesting, but was probably just some reassurance "Don't worry Sir, it's just those damn Democrats working with the Liberal Media--but we're working on it...".

George, (the Dumbass) W. Bush, is simply incapable of grasping the thought that he's done anything wrong (after all, he knows he's a Bush AND that he was appointed by God).

come solve his problems--might indicate a modest awareness that things aren't going as great as he might think they're supposed to (probably painful flashbacks to his long history of failure). Even so I expect he's going to come up with a "new direction" with is essentially "staying the course" with small tweaks.

He is not as rational as people are giving him credit for; if you listen carefully to what he says--and, to this extent, he is showing a little cleverness in that he never quite says what people think he's saying. I guess it's just that everyone expects him to be saying certain things--things that obviously would be the only reasonable option for someone in his situation--and the mere fact that he talks of and around those things, everyone is perceiving that he has actually said what they were expecting--when he didn't really. It's a skill; almost lawyerly of him--and given that much of the time he simply lies outright so much so that even if he really did say what people expect--it doesn't, in the smallest way, mean that he has any intention of doing what's been said.

Yeah, Condo will stick with him--he's the best thing that's ever happened to her. Dick's a little cold and condescending and no fun to trust and there's no more busy-minded Rummy. Gonzales is just his legal tool and so many of his neoconeheads aren't around... I think you may be right; W is probably feeling rather lonely and scared--behind the scenes--but I think he's got such a pathological "I'm right" complex that he's still unable to comprehend how badly screwed the country is. That he's been speaking of Truman and how he was vindicated in history does, however, show that he knows on some level that many people think he's been wrong (whether he grasps the magnitude of that or not--after all, his approval numbers still haven't, apparently, sunk to the twenties (or single digits where it belongs)).

It's so predictable though, that he's worried more about his "legacy" than people dying--thinking somehow that he will be proven right. It/he's insufferable. Not as beloved as he thought--he must be thinking all those people are so stupid; and that if he can't "show them", history will. He deserves a little suffering, coldness, numbness and fear--and that's at the very least.

It's the lack of real justice that's so deeply disappointing here; this President has highlighted the injustice in the world so brilliantly (and certainly not in any intentional manner) that it seems a large number of people--even here in the U.S. can see it (it's rather ubiquitous in the rest of the world). Crime and non-punishment; sounds like another appropos book title about the Bush Administration. Seems like the U.S. should become a signatory of the International Criminal Court... had we been, George really would have a cold, numb sensation creeping up his shrunken little spine.
