Go John!
GO JOHN!!

If there’s any way I can help, just let me know. I am with you, sir.

I know, he may not be the ideal “liberal” candidate. Personally, Dennis Kucinich would be my first choice. But let’s be real for a minute here. To be electable by the majority a candidate has to have charisma, be good looking and come across and being somewhat grounded in reality. Mr. Kucinich fails at least two of these three tests.

My take is that we Democrats need to win in 2008, not necessarily put our most idealistic candidate out there to lose in the General Election.

Mr. Edwards truly speaks to me in regards to the “Two America’s”. That’s where we will win this, by appealing to the working middle class. Once we’re in, we can shoot for true equal rights for everyone, gun control and anything else dear to one’s heart. But first we NEED to win the majority.

We know through recent examples that the rethugs will stoop to any tactic to hold onto any power they may still have. So we need to win the “average Joe” to take the first step towards our goals. And winning the “average Joe” will require us to put up a universally palatable candidate who doesn’t rock the boat too much from the get-go. Again, we can try to change our other injustices ONCE we are in a position to do so.

So, again Mr. Edwards, let me know how I can help you achieve your goal, the next President of the United States!

1. gun control will not mix with a large number of average joes.
They would rather have their guns than a good job and good economic prospects.

3. No matter who the Dem nominee is we are going to have to work on
breaking down the usefulness of the old, nasty GOP messages: Dems will take your Bibles away (God); Dems will take your guns away; Dems will let gays turn your kids gay; Dems will let the terrorists take over the country.

Edwards - being from Carolina is better able to carry a gun-control message than anyone from the North, I would think.

2. Agreed - Edwards is the first nominee I've been excited about!
I donated to help One America sponsor college kids working in New Orleans during Spring Break last year.

Edwards' "One America" message is, in my opinion, a call to revitalize FDR's New Deal (in modern form) and to return to DEMOCRACY -> a government of the people, by the people, for the people, one person-one vote.

6. Gore/Edwards? Sure...
If Mr. Gore has any desire to go through what happened to him in 2000. As with the "swiftboating" of Mr. Kerry in 2004, I think Mr. Gore would be (unfortunately) too nice to call BS to the crap the rethugs would throw at him. In 2000 it seems he didn't put up much of a fight over the contested election, as Mr. Kerry didn't either in 2004. John Edwards, being an experienced trial lawyer, would have no trouble calling BS to anyone who might try to impunge his integrity. That's what we need this time around!

17. I agree
Edwards has a razor sharp mind and a fighting spirit, a visionary that offers us hope.

9. I see Edwards/Obama as a distinct possibility.
But as always, I offer a caveat: It's too soon.

7. As I've said before, of all the canidates, I truly believe John understands the middle class
And not just "understands it" as in he will vote in the interests of the (what's left of it anyway) middle class, but that he truly mentally knows what it's like being poor and struggling to get by. And to me, that is truly powerful.

14. I totally agree with you!
He does understand and CARE about the middle class. He really cares about the poor and wants to make a difference. I love Elizabeth too! This is great news in my book!!

8. Edwards seems best choice for 2008
He has my vote. He seems to be the only one really trying to do something, like with minimum wages, unions and health care, and poverty.

11. Interesting post
"We" Democrats?? Gun control is dear to Democrats' heart? Not health care, minimum wage, education reform, gay marriage - but 'equal rights for everyone'??

Not the way any Democrat I know would have put it - but whatever.

12. Hi sandnsea,
Sorry my post did not meet your expectations of what Democrats believe. We are all different in many things, but I think I made my point that John Edwards is my candidate. Your "firm grasp of the obvious" on subjects such as health care, minimum wage, and education reform are the very things John Edwards is known for, and do not need elaborating on. But with the myriad other things so many feel are needed, we can wait to make progress on. The middle class has to be our base in order to win in 2008. Thanks,
dumpbush

15. One of the greatest statesmen of all time...
..was questionable in the "charisma" department, wasn't great looking, and was kind of *out there* reality-wise. The fool said the only thing we had to fear was fear itself. And he chomped on a stinky cigar all the time. Disgusting!

Give me a break with this stuff about Dennis Kucinich not being tall enough, handsome enough, clever enough, and all that crap.

Have you taken a good look at the woman who just married him? She apparently finds him pretty attractive. She might just be an English airhead with so much hair covering her eyes that she can't see clearly. However, hearing her being interviewed on the radio, seeing a recent video of her, I think she's no slouch in her own right.

More to the point for me, I've met Dennis Kucinich on a couple of occasions. The first time I saw him was in a high school gym in Santa Fe. That short guy came in and started singing to us: America, America...

Before the evening ended, I *saw* for myself what Dennis Kucinich has to offer. Later, at a dinner we held for him, a woman next to me told me she came there that night as a Dean supporter, but left converted to Dennis' cause.

He talked that night about closing down the School of the Americas. He talks every day about practical ways to bring this country back to itself.

Dennis Kucinich isn't very tall. I think Robert Redford is better looking. Al Sharpton probably has more "charisma." But he rocks...the boat in all the right ways.

I'm five feet tall. My father was only 5'6" tall. He landed at Omaha Beach, managed to carry a rifle all through Europe, small in stature though he was, fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Short guys can get the job down. They're closer to the ground and maybe more "grounded" that some men with their heads closer to the clouds.

It's true that Al and Tipper, John and Elizabeth are more mainstream and maybe more warm and fuzzy to the average American. America stands for diversity and I'd like to see it grow up and stop making decisions about our future based on how glamorous a candidate *and his wife* are. Let's just average out these couples and say that Elizabeth brings Dennis *way* up in the glamor department! :)

If we all change our tune, stop singing to the public that Dennis is great but can't win, stop retreating into what looks like a safe bet, we might get Dennis elected.

Let me say that I am also passionate about Al Gore. So I'm not just a camp follower in the Kucinich camp. I just get tired of all these people saying "He's great, but he can never win, so I'm not going to support him."

How superficial *are* we in America, anyway?

My humble opinion, of course!

16. Hillary can't win! We need an alternative like Edwards!!
While like many Dems I think it would be great to have a woman President, the odds of Hillary winning a national general election are extremely long. Make no mistake. The R's WANT Hillary to run so badly that they can taste it. She is a very polarizing figure with mountains of baggage that will be unpalatable for too many chunks of the NATIONAL electorate. She is female, and the hard reality is that in this country too many will simply refuse to vote for a woman at this time. If we are to win, we MUST win back "red" territory. Hillary has little chance of turning red states blue and in fact risks losing some close blue states. I'm very disappointed that Warner and Bayh got out. These were the types of moderates who had a real shot at winning a NATIONAL election. The Dem primary base needs to be REAL going into '08. Hillary can't win nationally, and it's also an extremely long shot for Obabma NATIONALLY given race issues and a real lack of national leadership experience. Dems MUST think NATIONALLY!!
A charsmatic southerner like Edwards has a chance, and it gets better with someone like Bayh on the ticket. Or maybe
Edwards/Clark, or Edwards/Richardson. We need someone with broad, NATIONAL appeal and who possesses the qualities that can win on the NATIONAL playing field. Hillary spells DOOM in a year when we can and should win. With Warner and Bayh now out, I'm with Edwards!!
