The Great Ideas And Solutions Of Newt Gingrich |
|
We Democrats, and Americans of all stripes, need to stop this propaganda now before it grows into another "conservative" movement. Because, other than maybe Rush Limbaugh, no person in America has divided this nation to the extent of Newt Gingrich. What we have seen leading up to the last election was the fruition of Newt's "ideas and solutions", beginning with the Contract on America, thru the impeachment of President Clinton, and the divisive and destructive Congress that was just sent home in defeat.
It was disturbing to see the propagandist Gingrich on MTP with Tim Russert, all by himself. There was no one there to contradict his proclamations and distortions. Democrats should be on his trail like a bloodhound on the trail of a murderer. It is a mistake to let him spout his McCarthyistic propaganda without an opposing viewpoint.
Newt likes to talk about sitting down in a "bi-partisan" way and discuss his "ideas" and "solutions". We have seen way too many of his ideas already. No one should be deceived in believing that he is the Second Coming of Ronald Reagan. However, that is the direction he wants to go. Charitably speaking, he is a scoundrel.

2. Wasn't it Newtie who recently proclaimed a desire to start 'WW III" ? |
|
I could SWEAR that man was rushing about media outlets ranting and raving about how it was time for the big war, and he seemed to be VERY exhilarated about it ....
He seemed to be quite glad the big war had finally come .......
Newtie is a dangerous asshole who is WORSE than the PNAC numbskulls he allied himself with ....

to the conservatives, he is a man of big ideas, even if he is flawed in other ways. That is the lie that must be countered. His ideas are divisive and destructive, as always.

5. Yes, we need to be proactive... |
|
...in countering the propaganda. Unfortunately, the media gives the microphone disproportionately to the Newts of the world. But even so, judging by the results of the last midterm, the public can hear other messages and are ready to do so. So we must not let up.
The rabid right has been very successful in preaching their message of hate for "libruls". Every word in their talking points has been vetted for its ability not only to project the overt message that liberals are wrong on the issues, but the covert/subliminal message that liberals are evil. And guess what, it was Newt who pushed the use of specific words and phrases, including the irritating "Democrat Party".
But the midterms were heartening, the people are starting to see through the BS. Newt is vulnerable if we pound on him. He is vulnerable in his personal life, and it cannot be treated as off limits. He is vulnerable in the results of his policy recommendations. He is vulnerable in his ethics violations and all around corruption. He is vulnerable in his dirty politics. We need to consistently pound on him. Every single Democrat, when Newt's name comes up, should select one of his weak points -- whatever is germane to the discussion at hand -- and slam him.
What we need in order to accomplish that is a list of the specific actions (delivering divorce papers to his wife in the hospital with cancer; the specific ethics charges; etc) and one or two sound bites to toss out there. In fact we need these lists for all of the rabid right wing posers, so that our side can more effectively call them out when they are blathering on. Let people know WHO they are. Let people judge fairly whether they want to take moral instruction from serial adulterers, whether they want to take financial advice from savings and loans profiteers -- you get the picture.
Turnabout is fair play.

6. There was no one there to refute and Russert did a very weak job of |
|
quoting what Grinrich said in the past. Most of the show devoted to Gingrich spin and double talk.
It seems that Russert is happy to give "full view" to the spinners trying to re-make their image. :-(

8. Good point. I thought, tho, that you were going to haul out some of |
|
Newtie's greatest --
things like how we ought to have more orphanages.
Or Democrats were responsible for Susan Smith drowning her children.

11. heheh. There were so many more, but alas |
|
memory fades with time (and age). But they're ALL there in Lexis/Nexis if not google. :D
Once upon a time I had a small paperback book about him, and I remember reading that when he was a mere Congressman from a somewhat rural area of Georgia, he really wasn't very much of a success in terms of submitting and passing legislation. One bill he did introduce had something to do with worker rights in outer space. That garnered him the nickname 'round his district of "Newt Skywalker."

10. Newt mastered the art of "politics by perception management" |
|
That is what we need to get the public to understand. The idea that lying is fine - saying anything hostile about the opponent is fine - selling the public on one idea while actually legislating nearly the opposite is fine... all that matters is that one spins and 'manages' public perception - so that the public believes what you want it to believe - facts and truth having no matter.
If the public were to fully understand what Newt brought to the modern political era - a tone and record of intentional deception that the public seems to be fed up with - then few in the public would ever be able to stomach him.
