I am in total agreement with Dennis Kucinich. STOP FUNDING THIS FIASCO! Yank the funds and keep them yanked. Deliver the message, it's over! There is already enough money to bring the troops home. Only money will be for reconstruction of their country (which we destroyed) Turn this over to the U.N. for the rebuilding..and beyond that, let the Iraqi's have at it! Someone will come out on top, surely.. and this will decide who runs the country.
Obviously, it's all a stall tactic right now, to keep us there. Still hoping, I guess for that 'black gold' to become prosperous to us (if they can keep the equipment up and running, in one piece long enough) Permanent bases..etc..etc... As long as the shrub is in charge, you can forget getting out of there. That is NOT his goal. He will sacrifice anyone and everyone he has to, if he thinks it can save 'face'...
The Dems are going to have to 'step up'..but will they? I have my serious doubts they will do more than 'enable' this joke of a foreign policy. Does it feel hopeless?? Yes, at times, it does!
Just my opinion

2. The problem is, without the US, the UN's dead in the water. |

John Bolton's recess presence there was more than plenty evidence of how much this "administration" is committed to being seriously cooperative with the UN.
So, as much as I sympathize on principle and in theory, calling in / depending on the UN to pawn off the "Iraq problem" is neither a feasible proposition, nor exactly helpful for Iraq and the entire region. And that latter is the crux, AFAIC.
