To all those who do not consider themselves to be pro-life
Do you oppose the occupation of Iraq and the slaughter of innocent civilians?

Do you oppose the destruction of our environment in the name of corporate profits?

Do you oppose the death penalty?

Do you support universal health care?

Do you want to make sure that no woman ever has to risk their lives by using a coat hanger to perform a delicate medical procedure?

Do you believe we should research embryonic stem-cells in order to provide cures to deadly illnesses?

Then you are pro-life.

Being pro-life means that you respect life, it does not mean that you oppose a woman's right to control her own body.

We can not allow the people who want to send more young men and women to die in an illegal and immoral war to claim they are pro-life any more.

We are the ones that are pro-life. We are ones that want to stop the mass slaughter that Republicans are currently engaging in.

We can not allow them to hijack our language and claim that we do not support life. I want to hear all progressives using the words pro-life to describe their vision for the future. Let us not allow the Republicans to determine the language in our national debate.

2. I don't use the term "pro-life." They are anti-choice.
I am pro-privacy in regards to a woman and her medical choices that are none of my business.

6. You're right. Those "pro-lifers" are also anti-freedom of religion,
since it's their religion that they claim requires the need to outlaw abortion. In doing so, they're requiring other Americans to practice the "pro-life" religion, so those Americans do not have freedom of /from religion.

14. I couldn't agree more.
When ever I hear someone use the phrase 'pro-life', I correct them. I am pro-life AND pro-choice - the end. It is quite simple really.

3. Good post.
You make some excellent points. The challenge is to get the conservative side of America to believe them.

5. What is there not to believe?
It is an undeniable fact that war kills people.

It is an undeniable fact that people die because they do not have health care coverage.

It is an undeniable fact that before Roe vs. Wade many women did die from botched abortions.

They can moan and whine all they want, but the fact is is that their policies have resulted in many deaths around the world.

17. Oh, I think you're absolutely right about this.
But some Americans choose to stay in a state of denial, just like the 20% of them who still support Bush in this insane war.

I work in a pharmacy and every day now I see seniors going without their medications because they've hit the Medicare Part D "donut hole". IF enough of them live through it, they'll be able to be covered again on January 1. This is a travesty.

I believe some of the populace has awoken, as evidenced by the Nov. 7 election results. The most strident "pro-lifer" in the Senate, Rick Santorum was defeated here in PA.

7. The challenge is to get...
...sleepy, overfed, TV addicted, middle America to pay attention to the points in the OP. This country is SO unaware of the disaster that is about to befall them. And when you try to warn them, their response is that they don't want to think about "unhappy" things.

I had a very smart friend once, who when I had asked her if she had gone to see a certain movie, she said that if any of the major reviews had the phrase "feel good", she would intentionally avoid it. She didn't want to start becoming dependent on the mass media's Novocaine. That was 10+ years ago, and whenever I click on something on TV or go to the movies, I think about it. Sure I'll go see a romantic comedy...but I don't shy away from a film that may be uncomfortable to watch, or painful to think about afterwards.

My point is, what can we do to wake folks up and get them out of their numb little cocoons?

16. I hate the term "pro-life." The opposite is "pro-death."
No woman has ever gotten pregnant for the sole purpose of having an abortion.
