Mark Warner is back in.
Well, at least he's thinking about it.
"Now that Hotline has published the rumor, my sources have released me from my pledges ... Mark Warner has, in fact, been rethinking his decision to leave the Presidential race for several weeks now. Warner's going to wait and see how this race plays out -- does Obama enter the race and can he keep momentum if he does? Does John Edwards keep his Iowa lead? Does Vilsack have any impact? Does Gore get in?

For now, Warner remains out ... but he has the apparatus in place (the Forward Together PAC hasn't gone anywhere) and the ability to raise funds quickly. So consider it a tentative no, for now."

2. He was out before he was in... then he was ....
Warner must of gotten the memo that dropping out took him off any lists for VP. Ok, he officially shredded his credibility or his family time became a lot less important. Color me amused...

3. Exactly...
If he was politically saavy, he would have said he will not make a decision until next spring...it was way too early to drop out, unless he did some research and there are some unseen skeletons waiting to rise up...

4. I like Warner, and I hope he does get back in the race.
He's a good guy, and very popular inhis State as Governor. What is your problem with him?

7. I don't see a problem with him running either..
Good for him if he decided to go for it afterall.. He was breaking all kinds of records with fundraising, so he had to be doing something right.

18. It's more a problem with the assumption behind a Warner or Vilsack-type candidate
That is, the idea that Democrats have to nominate a candidate who is to the right of most of us because we and our ideas are somehow permanently unpopular and we have to settle for being a junior partner in our own electoral coalition.

This just isn't healthy for the party. The Republicans never repent THEIR core values, why can't our candidates stop repenting OURS?

8. I doubt it affected Warner's decision at all. I think he's looking at what he sees so far
and isn't happy. I think he's smart enough to realize how much personal energy and dedication a run for the Prezrequires, and if he decides he really has it, I say go for it!

I must admit, as I look across all the Dem candidates so far, I like each one for different reasons, but each one has their own drawbacks too. 2008 is very far away! I think anyone whohas the strong desire for the job shouldat least try!

9. I hope Warner does decide to run
He'll make me more excited about voting in 2008 than with Hillary as the nominee.

10. There was a rumor going around that he had a lady problem
I dunno if it is true or not, but if it was, maybe he was able to neutralize that matter, like GHWB did Jennifer Fitzgerald....

16. Warner
I don't think Warner stood a chance against Edwards/Clinton/Obama. He only served 1 term as governor, other Presidents had served at least 2 terms elected, so I'm not sure he could even win Virginia.

He is more likely able to win the Senate seat in a rematch against the other Warner. He's probably regretting not Challenging Allen, but nobody would have predicted that implosion.

I predict he will win the Senate seat, after all, the older Warner is pretty damn old. He also was married to Liz Taylor, how did that happen?

17. Jimmy Carter was a one term Governor before getting elected..
Actually Jeff Greenfield on CNN did a segment the other day on how many presidents wound up getting elected with very little experience under their belt..

It was actually pretty interesting. He said that sometimes "too much experience" or as in Hillary's case "too much baggage" is more harmful than a fresh face with no ties to Washington.

He was doing the segment on behalf of Senator Obama; not Governor Warner... but still, he did share a lot of info on candidates with very little political experience who wound up winning.

Mark Warner wasn't a one term governor by choice.. They can only serve one term in Virginia. He left office with the highest rating of any governor in history there, so I do think if he ran... he'd do well in that state.

I also agree with you though that it would be a SMART move for him to run against the older Warner for the U.S. Senate in '08 if he doesn't run for Prez..

BTW jcrew2001, welcome aboard!!!

20. That would be very good
I'd really like to see him run for that Senate seat! With his popularity in his home state so high that would be a very good bet of a Sen seat going from red to blue.
