So Democracy is no longer the goal... |
|
I saw Fox while at the gym.
They are harping on two points:
1. If we "lose" Iraq, then terrorists, Iran, and the Chupacabra will see us as weak and attack us.
2. To not "lose" Iraq, Iraq must be "stable." The "D" word was never mentioned.

5. That was just a backup/alternate reason/excuse... |
|
Since they didn't find any WMDs (as anyone with more than half a brain knew before they went in), they had to make up other possible reasons--any, whether they were apparent/true or not.
Of course, spreading Democracy to the region probably really was one of their more minor reasons--so long as the "Democracy" was a thoroughly controlled, puppet government which "we" would control. Plus, then those poor, ignorant, hairy muslims could see first hand (a) what they've been missing out on, and (b) how a "real" modern, sophisticated, enlightened government really works--since they obviously couldn't manage to develop a proper government of their own; so they'd change their minds and start doing everything our way and be properly grateful. Those ingrates... :sarcasm:
