Does primary season normally start this early? |
|
Geez Louise.
It's funny, but a friend of mine thought because I was politically informed that I enjoy politics, as in who does what to who and why, ulterior motives, the whole little soap opera. He thought I was into that even at a local level (something that came up because we were talking about universities vs private schools and the politics of who gets funded and who doesn't). He assumed I knew WAY more than I did about this university situation and had to backtrack and apologize for assuming when it turned out I didn't have a clue.
And now I'm faced with a daily dose of "If Edwards runs then Hillary's in trouble except that he couldn't take the South but then maybe if he ran with Clark who used to be a Republican but is the only one for us and then there's Obama who's the new Dean but has a funny last name but Kerry's toast but Kennedy still loves him and Kucinich could take it all but don't forget Gore."
Iiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Is all this kibbutzing normal? I mean I like politics but not in the sense of "office politics."
Can't we just skip this part? I like my guy, you like yours, we all vote and see who wins. Okay?
Now excuse me, I need some herb tea to settle my nerves.

The primary speculation starts earlier because the person who raises the most money usually wins. So every serious candidate needs to start early to horde all the donors, and keep them from giving to his/her competition.
This is what Bush and Clinton have done, they ask for donors to pledge to only give to them, therefore there competitors are sol, and they win by default.

Usually candidates don't even start running for the primaries until late spring or summer. For some reason, people are impatient and want the horse race to start last week.
It is particularly poisonous to be a declared frontrunner so early in the race. We might have had the Muskie or McCarthy administration and now be in the second term of the Lieberman administration if frontrunneritis was not what it is...
President Dewey...remember him?

7. It has been since Carter.... |
|
He was one of the first to start running for the Iowa Primary...
And that was before 24/7 news channels...
Right now, I just don't have it in me anymore to get all jumpy this far out...
