Kucinich Gets Poor Reviews In Ohio (second item)

<snip>

It's easy to see the spin Kucinich's rivals -- Democrat or Republican -- might offer: If those who know Kucinich best don't like him, why should the rest of us?

2. Reality is
that two papers came out hard against Kucinich. It doesn't bode well.

Plus, it's not just his mayoral term. Apparently, some Democrats are upset that Kucinich stayed in the 2004 race as long as he did.

4. That's nothing new
The newspapers in Ohio have hated him since he was mayor of Cleveland. He stood up to the banks that were trying to steal the city of Cleveland's electric utility. They'll never forget how he fought them.

5. Why is that - I was (and am) a Kerry supporter
I saw nothing wrong with him staying in. Kerry gave him a slot to speak just like he did the other candidaets. He didn't slow down the time when Kerry was perceived to be the nominee.

6. i think the idea
was that it didn't help with party unity -- that he had made his point as a protest candidate, but that he was being selfish by pushing late in the primaries.

16. Some Democrats were grateful that he stayed in.
It gave us someone to vote for in the primary who represented us. It also demonstrated integrity on his part. He told us he was in for the duration, and he stayed. Frankly, having people drop out before your primary ever happens, narrowing choices based on the lucky few who go "first," is not the way to run a clean election, imo. I'd like to see primaries all happen on the same day, giving every primary or caucus vote equal weight.

3. Ohio's conservative news media
has always hated Kucinich. He probably considers it a compliment and he should.

7. I'm from Cleveland and was around during his campaign and subsequent recall vote
The city's political leaders will never accept Kucinich. Many people also reject him and will never change their mind. They feel he brought embarassment to the city when we went into bankruptcy. The most ridiculous thing is that everyone admits that he was right about not giving up our power station.

8. IMO, he doesn't want to be President and isn't hoping to win the nomination
so none of this matters anyway. Even Sharpton did better than Kucinich in 2004. I like Dennis, and if his supporters want to send a message with their vote (I am not sure what the message was in 2004, or what effect it had) they are free to do so.

9. This is what most people don't understand
Many people who enter primaries don't want to win. They just want their issues to be debated nationally and maybe be included in the platform.

I wish people would discount people who want to enter the primary.

Al Sharpton also won the South Carolina and was actually a factor in Howard Dean getting out of the race. During one of the debates Sharpton made an issue of the lack of diversity in Dean's office.

11. Yeah,
that whole lack of diversity thing that Sharpton went off about, bugged me. Vermont is the whitest state in the country. That's hardly Dean's fault. And Dean had tons of women in high positions in his throughout his temure in office.

12. Did Sharpton win SC?
I thought Edwards did, but Sharpton did do very well there if I recall.

Either way, Kucinich did poorly last time and will do so this time.

14. You're right
Edwards did win that primary, my mistake.

I agree with Cali, bring up the lack of diversity wasn't something that Dean purposely did. It was wrong to make it look like Dean was discriminating against people.

13. This guy is running purely on ego
Edited on Wed Dec-20-06 04:39 AM by Ninja Jordan
He has no chance at the nomination and some of his positions make Dems look out of the mainstream. The only beneficial effect his candidacy has is making Edwards, Hillary et al. look moderate by comparison.
