Kerry supporters: We aren't going to switch to Kerry because it's 'time' |
|
I can't believe the amount of 'Switch to Kerry because he is winning' threads going around. There is a 90% chance that your man will win the nomination! There is no need to be paranoid! Telling us that we should 'fall in line' does nothing but piss us off and make us more determined to support our candidate. If you really want our support, write threads about Kerry's policies, not his most recent endorsement.
Personally, I think it is healthy to have all of the candidates still running. If something terrible happens, i.e. a terrible accident, a major scandal, or something along those lines, the Democrats will still have some choices as opposed to 'Oh crap, we nominated damaged goods'. It isn't likely that this will happen, nor do I want this to occur. The major part though is that it will keep Kerry sharp on the political trail. If you can't put up with people who are against you for now, but with you in the fall, how in the world do you expect to survive groups of people who will go at your throat with no limits?
If you want my support, come and get it. You will have a lot of convincing to do, but not nearly as much as you will have to make in the fall. Those people certainly won't listen to 'Hey, support Kerry because you are hurting him'.

1. I'm a long-time Clark supporter... |
|
and I haven't seen many Kerry supporters urging me to switch to Kerry now.
Furthermore, if Kerry does secure the nomination, I don't expect Kerry's supporters to come sucking up to me. Furthermore, they won't have to. I will vote for the Democratic nominee in November.

4. I think you're misreading the point of that thread..... |
|
the poster is trying to make the case that we were told to get behind Dean by Al Gore. The reasons given no longer apply to Dean - they apply to Kerry. The poster is tweaking Dean supporters by saying they should now get behind Kerry, IF in fact they believed Gore's rationale for urging us to get behind Dean.
But still, one thread doesn't make the case that many Kerry supporters are demanding or even urging our support right now.

13. Ditto. What you said, Dookus. Clark is still my man... |
|
But if and when Kerry is the nominee, he becomes my man.

3. We've been through this "fall into line" stuff with the Dean campaign |
|
not so very long ago. Live and learn.
If John Kerry wins enough votes to take the nomination on the first ballot I expect my candidate will probably concede defeat and endorse the winner. If this doesn't happen until the convention, I expect my candidate to still be running up until Boston.
Another thing we're learning from the Dean campaign is that endorsements cannot be counted upon. Including superdelegates in the "definite" column is foolhardy to say the least.
Beat my guy in the voting and you've got a win. Anything else is just talk.

...about such sentimental appeals. Frankly, only Kerry can influence me to support him.
And he is a very, very long way from doing that. It would take Kerry's discovering some kind of depth and independence that has thus far eluded him under Bush. In the absence of some new profound rehabilitation of his political philosophy, he remains another establishment figure in whom I have no interest -- a man whose votes (for the Patriot Act and for war) along with his public utterances (specifically, his willingness to continue the illegal occupation of Iraq) make him part of the problem, not part of the solution.

7. I spend a lot of time here and I don't see people |

suggesting that anyone should "fall in line" and switch to Kerry. What I mostly see is Kerry supporters defending their candidate. I also see us defending ourselves against charges of bandwagon jumping, of toeing the DLC line and myriad other spurious charges. I have never had a problem with the large field and agree that it has helped the party. In particular I think Sharpton and Kucinich are saying things that need to be said. I support Kerry for no other reason than I think he is the best candidate in the field. That is my judgement and I fully support your right to exercise yours.
Personally I dislike candidate bashing and I do not indulge in it. It has been my impression that most of the acrimony I see is from Dean supporters directed at Kerry and his supporters. There is a measure of satisfaction in picking a candidate and then seeing thousands of people from all parts of the country support him as well by VOTING FOR HIM. Nothing else really matters. I will be glad when the process is complete and we can hopefully get behind whomever gets the nomination and get rid of that usuper and his puppet masters.

8. It was good enough for Dean |
|
Way back in December before a vote was cast. Now it's an outrageous assault against the voters of America. It's the hypocrisy that I can't stand. And they can all stay in for as long as they like as far as I'm concerned.

But if my candidate loses both of today's contests I will expect him to exit the race. If he does not, I would have to reconsider my support for him.

We want your support because we don't want to see another squeaker like 2000 where a handful of voters made such a difference...and because you're fellow DUers. I don't cite endorsements...unless you count the ones in my tag line?

the one by sandnsea was more about making a point by bringing up what al gore said about howard dean rather than demanding others get behind kerry. there were a few by this one supporter of kerry who did not always support kerry and i posted on his threads that i didn't like that i opposed those type of demands. but i haven't seen so many as you claim there are.
