Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen (news, bio, voting record) was selected Tuesday as the new chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and will oversee the party’s political strategy for the 2008 House elections. The following is a list of DCCC chairmen in recent election cycles.

2007-08: Chris Van Hollen, Maryland

2005-06: Rahm Emanuel, Illinois*

2003-04: Robert T. Matsui, California

2001-02: Nita M. Lowey, New York

1999-2000: Patrick J. Kennedy, Rhode Island

1997-98: Martin Frost, Texas

1995-96: Martin Frost, Texas

1993-94: Vic Fazio, California**

1991-92: Vic Fazio, California

1989-90: Beryl Anthony, Arkansas

1987-88: Beryl Anthony, Arkansas

1985-86: Tony Coelho, California

1983-84: Tony Coelho, California

1981-82: Tony Coelho, California
