Stupid effing wingnuts immunize Obama from anti-Muslim bigotry
OK, those aren't my words, much as I wish they were, but the title of a fantastic diary over at kos. I think the author hits the nail smack on the head, and the piece is funnay as hell, too.

Here's a snip:

You know how the flu shot works: the doctor injects the patient with some weakened, dead, and generally pitiful excuses for viruses. The body whips these chumps, gets itself immunized and resistant to that kind of virus. Then, when the real virus comes along at full strength, the body just sneers at it.

Wingnut commentators may be similarly categorized into two groups. Ironically, the more dangerous ones are those who can be subtle about stoking fear and ignorance. The more aggressive ones tend to score own goals (Claire McCaskill thanks you, Rush).

Today, this weakened virus comes in the form of the the ever-icky Debbie Schlussel. Below I show why, if she's not on the payroll of Senator Obama, she might as well be.

Geekesque's diary :: ::
Ms. Schlussel starts by self-Godwinning with the title of her article: Barack Hussein Obama: Once a Muslim, Always A Muslim
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/12/19/174746/64

And you have to read Schlussel entire demented article to even begin to appreciat the how whacked out she is. It's beyond repulsive. As the auhor of the kos diary says, when you've lost Michelle Malkin, you've really lost it.

3. Hmmm....since my father was a Methodist,
and my mother a Methodist, I guess I have to be a Methodist by that logic.

4. What's with the concern about earning the support of bigots?
Are bigots are critical part of the voting block for the Democratic Party? I sure hope not.

5. O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous!
If someone goes on the attack against a candidate (or, well, anyone else), and does it badly enough, they're basically going to undermine their own criticism.

This particular waste of carbon is, by being a waste of carbon, turning a complaint against Obama that the GOP would probably make a big deal out of into something ridiculous and untouchable, something No Reasonable Person Would Make A Deal Of Since This Psycho Said Such-And-Such.

For some reason that just ... doesn't bother me that much.

6. You missed the boat entirely.
Or you didn't read what I posted, though the title is a dead giveaway.

11. Au contraire
The thesis that over-the-top bigotry is so appalling that it immunizes Obama against more subtle "whisper campaign" bigotry is irrelevant. The sorts of folks who are vulnerable to the "whisper campaign" bigotry are themselves bigots and hence are not Democratic voters. So it doesn't really matter if Obama is immunized from their 15th century views of religious toleration and race relations. This immunization might mean that they'll accept that Obama's middle name is Hussein or perhaps even think he's a swell guy, but they'll still wind up voting for a Republican for other reasons.

7. Debbie Schlussel is pretty much a Wack-Packer

fantastic on the Stern show just because of how much Howard and Artie mock her. They aren't even liberal democrats like us and they take her about as seriously as a cartoon.

Sort of a lame/un-cool experience to have had but I actually had a long back-and-forth conversation with her one night on the old Howard Stern bulliten board. One of the things she revealed was that she utterly dispises Laura Ingraham.

14. artie's impression of her is genius
I can just hear it in my head now. They (Stern people) think independently, but they usually fall on our side of the issues. She hasn't been on in a while though. Maybe they got bored with her.

8. Schlussel is a pathetic wannabe
She tries to look and sound like Coulter. She must be so angry it hasn't worked, lol. So she has to say even more outrageous things to get attention.

9. So she is saying...
a person has no right to choose their own religion, whatever you were born into, you are stuck with, like it or not. This is so ridiculous it doesn't deserve comment.

13. Doesn't Obama attend Trinity UCC in Chicago?
Jeremiah Wright's church? Fundies don't consider the UCC to be christian, but, luckily, they aren't the ones with the final say in all that.
