I'M A DEANIAC.
Always have been, always will be. Tell me what your opinions are about the upcoming presidential race. It's early...granted.

1. Fellow Deaniac checking in!
I love what the Good Dr has done for the grassroots, and while I'd love to see what he can do in the Oval Office, I'm putting my money and hopes (and sweat and door-knocking skills if necessary) on Al Gore. It's his turn, and he's been proven right every day of the last 6 years in ever bubkis thing Dimson has done.

:)

32. This is no surprise to me, Tom, but the really good thing is
that the primaries, this time, are going to be as fair as can be reasonably expected. I'm confident of that.

3. We can only hope Al Gore will accept the challenge.
If he does, he'll win it. The Democratic party is going through some changes though, and some of the old guard are NOT PLEASED.

10. Yes, he is leading by example, that is true.
And leaders in Canada and Europe are listening to him too.

He is the Thomas Jefferson of our generation. And Jefferson eventually became president.;)

12. I like to think of him as the Thomas Paine of any generation--
he is challenging our current political system in that he wants to return to fiscal and political sanity.

15. I meant Jefferson in the sense that he is reforming the party and
is doing a lot to restore our diplomatic relations abroad--notably with Sergolene Royal of late!

with an Uzi! I love to see him interviewed on TeeVee...the interviewers are shaking in their boots; they don't know what to expect. It's not the usual..play nice...Dean tells it like it is and CORRECTS these people. He's the best, and I believe that he is the main reason we won so overwhelmingly in the mid-terms.

And he says its time to renew our relationships around the world.

He won't run in 08...but it would be nice.

7. A Deaniac of the early-adopter variety, went to the very first
Dean meetup in my area & kept on going.

I guess I have to classify myself as a Deaniac for Gore these days. I must say that my appreciation for Gore has done nothing but increase since 2000.

last primaries was that Gore came out as a populist. It was remarkable. I hope Gore runs again.

18. Gore, check.
The others, I'm not so sure. Edwards I am wary of. Plus we Deaniacs here in Minnesota were told to throw our support to Edwards instead and the next day he dropped out! So I'm still p'od over that one. Ditto Clark--I have a bad taste left over from the fact he was the "anti-Dean".

33. I volunteered for the Dean
campaign when he came to speak at the 2003 California Democratic convention and NO ONE out here knew who he was. They kept introducing him as John Dean. The man mezmerized the audience and Deanmania broke out. Edwards spoke too -- all about how he supported the pResident's Iraqi war -- he was almost booed off the stage. Kerry couldn't bother to be there unless there was a fundraiser with it involving the "beautiful people" who have lots and lots of money. Dean went to house parties where giant sums of $2,000 were raised -- collectively. But I digress. I spoke with the people at the Dean booth who told me there were only 12 people currently at Dean headquarters. I immediately volunteered and worked my ass off until the Iowa debacle the next year (thank you Kerry, Edwards, & Gebhardt campaigns -- proud moments for all three of you, NOT).

If Gore doesn't run, I'll be writing in a candidate . . . again. And guess who's name I'll be writing in?

34. Because of Dean
I think I will always be active in politics.... before I use to be an issue person - but the Democratic Platform encompasses almost all the issues I care deeply about and I truely believe that building the base in every county or community no matter what "color" the state is will not only be good for the Democratic Party but Democracy in America.

On that note - I really want Al Gore to run - and everyone around me both super-politically connected and the apoliticals alike are asking me how can we get Al to run.

I heard on some show that he has enough name recognition (obviously) that he can hold out the longest before he announces whether he is going to throw his hat into the race. I hope this is the case.

I also like Obama - but I think we need more than charisma at the head of the country.

37. I think our foreign policy situation is going to be even worse
than it is now and the electorate will make their decision based on that. Experience in government, diplomacy, and especially foreign policy will be key. There are several good Democrats who fit that bill, and even a few Republicans (though the RNC might not be smart enough to nominate them).

my 2 cents

over the country and that has NOT been an easy job to do considering how collapsed it was allowed to get under the last two Dem party chairs.

40. Although I was a supporter of Dean's presidential bid
I'm actually kind of happy he didn't win the nomination. I think that had Dean been nominated, we would have had a very divided party, a la 1968 or '72, whereas we were as united in 2004 around Kerry as I can ever remember the Democratic Party. Had we run Dean in '04 and lost, that would have been the end of him, all his ideas would have been discredited, and the party would have continued its spiral of decline. I don't know what kind of President Howard Dean would have proved to be, but I think he is a hell of a good chairman, and while there is plenty of credit to go around, I have no doubt that he deserves a lot of it for our successes in 2006 and in the furture.
