What's with this fascination with McCain?
He's a tired old has-been. I keep seeing all these polls showing McCain in hypothetical races in '08. Yet the people who would likely vote for McCain in a general election aren't going to be the ones voting in the Republican primaries! I have yet to meet anyone who considers themself a conservative who had anything good to say about McCain. They consider him to be their version of our Lieberman. They trashed him in '00, what makes anyone think they won't do the same in '08? Same goes for Guliani - he's far too "liberal" for many conservatives. If you can stomach it, listen to any right-wing talk show, they really don't have much love for either. Sure, they'd grudgingly vote for them if they had to - but they'd much rather have someone more "conservative".

It's still far too early to tell who the rethugs will nominate in '08, but chances are it's going to be someone pretty far to the right, someone that the religious wackos like. Gingrich and Brownback would be my first two guesses, but there's still plenty of time for some other assclown to assert themself.

The chances of McCain getting the GOP nomination are about as good as Lieberman getting the Democratic nomination.

3. The whole thing with the laughing fits obviously renders him unelectable.
If he busts out with one of those during a speech or debate, it's game over. The fact that the news has even come out shows they're not totally controllable with meds. An opponent raises the spectre of McCain having one of his laughing fits during an episode of nuclear brinksmanship, or whatever horrors the future has in store, and that's it.

7. That is the most shocking thing about this clown.
What Rove/Bush did to him in South Carolina in 2000 was sick. Calling the voters and asking them what they think about John McCain fathering a illegitimate black baby--pure Rove. And the power crazed McCain forgave them for it. Un-freaking-believable.

8. He's The Maverick! The New Ross Perot!
McCain's been put up as the "moderate" who'll make things work after the ultra-liberal Clinton and the uber-conservative bush* have pushed us to extremes.

Of course its all bullshit, but that's what the media's pushing. The problem for them is I don't think the public is buying it so much anymore.

9. I don't get it either...
Since when did running a lousy french fry company and looking like a dog with bug eyes mean you were a good president. Besides, he makes something with the word "french" in it, so he'll never get the republican seal of approval. But If he does run, he should run with kerry. Hienz Ketchup and McCain fries.Yummy!
