Did Bush link increase in min. wage to tax cuts?
I was half listening to his press conference and I thought that when he mentioned that he was going to go along with increase in minimum wage he added some conditioning phrase about tax cuts.

So far all the commentators concentrate on Iraq, it seems.

1. Found it
Another area where we can work together is the minimum wage. I support the proposed $2.10 increase in the minimum wage over a two- year period. I believe we should do it in a way that does not punish the millions of small businesses that are creating most of the new jobs in our country. So I support pairing it with targeted tax and regulatory relief, to help these small businesses stay competitive and to help keep our economy growing.

When the Dems...
take over Congress and pass a minimum wage bill without tax cuts for his millionaire pals, he will either have to sign it or look like the ass he is.

5. This was the same crap they tried to push through two months
ago. They linked the minimum wage increase to a permanent tax cut for riech wing rich pukes, thus forcing the democrats to vote against it and then tried to make the point that democrats voted against the minimum wage increase into a weapon in the mid terms.

Bush is trying to suggest that he will veto the minimum wage bill if there is not a tax cut attached.

One of the positive values that will come out of this contratemps is that more and more people are going to figure out what absolute criminals these republicans be.

8. the GOP proposal
that linked a raise in minimum wage to yet another tax cut for the ultra-rich had to be the pinnacle of greed and disdain for the working man. Ugh.

10. It was pretty sickening.

As I recall, the plan was actually to make permanent the already existing, sun-setted cuts, but, same difference. I sadly fear there will be no real relief for moderate to low income working people short of violence and I'm not looking forward to that with eager anticipation.

6. There are more rich democrats than there are repugs in
congress. By a wide margin! But I am not sure how
that proportion breaks down with the general population.

Some of the richest folks such as Gates, Kennedy's,
Rockefellars, etc lean towards the democratic party.

9. Both Bill Clinton and Kerry said several times
that they welcome the repeal of the tax cuts of which they are great beneficiary.

I have no doubt that both Kennedy and Rockefeller would say the same.

12. it's a bluff

he doesn't have the guts, much less the votes in congress, to
oppose a minimum wage increase in any way, shape or fashion.

he has already forgotten who won in november.
