Newt writes off Bush, blames Rove for failures, likely will not run in '08
http://www.insightmag.com/Media/MediaManager/Gingrich3.htm

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has decided to break with President Bush.

Sources close to Mr. Gingrich said that, after having kept silent for more than a year, he has become openly critical of the administration, portraying the president as a weak man akin to Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. The former House speaker has warned conservatives not to expect anything from the White House over the remaining two years and instead focus on building a base for leadership for 2008.

"Newt bit his tongue for months and now feels he has to tell his base the truth: the White House does not have the will or the power to promote any agenda," a source close to Mr. Gingrich said.

The sources said Mr. Gingrich, who refuses to commit to a presidential bid in 2008, blames White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove for Mr. Bush's mistakes, including the loss of Congress in 2006. They said Mr. Gingrich's criticism of the top Bush political adviser has been considered by the president and this could lead to Mr. Rove's early departure.

On Nov. 30, Mr. Gingrich, hosted by dozens of powerful conservatives, spoke at a private fund raiser for the Virginia Conservative Action PAC. Mr. Gingrich, lamenting the waste of the Republican Party's huge ad campaign during the 2006 election, called on Mr. Rove to either change his losing strategy or quit.

2. *this could lead to Mr. Rove's early departure*
Sure. When pigs fly. Without Rove, Bush wouldn't know when to brush his teeth.

3. Amazing! Even Newtie refuses to blame the guy responsible
I suppose it would feel like blaming a 3 year old child. What part of "BUSH IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS ADMINISTRATION" don't these guys get.
Is Newt about ready to change wives again? This one must be pert-near wore out by now.

4. Another rat jumps off the good ship George Bush.
Bush lost because of disastrous policies that Newt supported,
especially the debacle in Iraq. It wasn't a poor marketing
job by Karl Rove.

So Newt is looking at running in 2012? He has apparently
written off the GOP for 2008. Interesting.

9. No, no. That's just window dressing.
He's being coy, perhaps. But don't imagine he's written it off -- or if he really has, we must be in worse shape as a nation than even any of us realize. But mostly I just think he wants to play hard to get.

7. Gee Newt, you were the architect of this Congress...remember?
You're the one who took credit for getting Republicans elected in the 90's. We've seen what the Grinchrich Revolution is and we can't afford anymore of the hallmark corruption, incompetence, and hypocrisy that it represents. Before casting fingers on who is to blame, check the mirror, asshole.

8. Gee, there's a real loss to democracy. Newt tosses in the towel.
Enjoy your life with the other RW has-beens.
