Listen to Kucinich Speak at Virginia Tech (.mp3 file)
Edited on Tue Feb-10-04 09:05 AM by Township75
DK came and spoke last night at Virginia Tech. The university radio station broadcasted and recorded his speach. It is available for download at the following site:

http://www.collegiatetimes.com/

I thought Dennis did really well. He spoke very well, and I wondered why he never came across this way in the debates I watched. He made some very good points which should be in the mp3 files:

1. Why would Americans replace a pro-war repub with a pro-war dem?

2. Why would Dems nominate someone who voted for the war and for the patriot act? If we were to do that, then during the debates how could we make those an issue. imagine Bush in the debate looking over at our nominee and saying, "I chose to invade Irag and you agreed with me. Thanks for your support on that issue.", or "I chose to roll back our civil rights and you helped me." I thought those were his best points for the night.

Interestingly enough...after his speech, Denise announced he had to leave because he had made a commitment for a phone call, but he would be back in about 5 minutes. So there was a commercial/intermission during the questions. Unfortunately, the questions on not in the mp3 file. There were some interesting ones, along with some really stupid ones.

I ended up with the best seat in the house. I was 3 rows back at the edge of the row of seats. DK often walked up the aisles and stopped right next to my chair. I got plenty of pics, but don't know of a site that offers free webspace for hosting pics. Offer it up if you do.

edit to correct for spelling DKs name

1. and stopped right next to my chair
when I saw him speak to a small group in a co-op in San Diego last summer, he would walk over and stand next to you in such a personal way ... so down to earth and real ....

btw, you might try to correct the spelling of Dennis at the beginning of your post

thanks for the link

2. thanks for the report
Dk does really well in those types of forums particularly doing Q&A. And he does it all off the top of his head with no notes.
DK does like to walk trough the audience Donahue-style while speaking.

Sounds like a good event. How big was the crowd?

7. thanks for posting this!
I was almost going to go, but 140 miles one way deterred me.

Lucky I didn't hear that speech this morning, I would have voted for DK. I wavered, but voted for Clark.

8. A common observation!
"I wondered why he never came across this way in the debates I watched"

I've heard this so many times! I decided a long time ago that people decide to support Dennis after they've seen him up close, but I don't know what to do about it.

A) How to send him everywhere?

B) How to persuade people to go see him?

9. It would be better if he just used the lines and talking points in the
debates that he used last night. He didn't mention any candidate but himself, and he was very direct with his points.

I don't know why he hasn't done as well as in debates as he doesn in rallies

10. Or how to get the debate moderators
to acknowledge he is even in the room half the time! :eyes:

12. its very true
in my experience that folks who don't support DKm largely have not seen him speak in person.

The debate format doesn't lend itself well to his communiciation style, which is very deliberate and thoughtful. Plus he builds or weaves his points to dramatic highs and then somber lows, which is not done well in sound bite format. His humor also is evident in person and has been coming out more of late in the debates.

But its true that how to send DK everywhere and how to persuade people to go see him are the biggest challenges, aside from media coverage which is hopeless.

But the thing I keep in mind is that the folks who do see him and are mightily impressed, will not forget him lightly. The movement is just beginning I believe.
